I had an incident the other day and I'm pretty sure it wasn't me.

2-some playing behind another 2-some. We were on their tail all day but never hit into them, but always hit immediately as they moved on. I call this responsible golf.

Well on 18, the lady starts waving us to drive which i thought was odd because its 18. You can tell she was frustrated. I drive and my ball lands near her second shot and she is staring me down. I say is there a problem? She then tells me I saw you standing on the tee box with your hands on your hips.(I was tired, like 100F outside) and she gets in my face saying we have been rushing them all day etc. Her husband was on the other side of the fairway and wanted no part of her craziness.

She was in the wrong correct? I see nothing wrong with staying on someones tail as long as you don't hit into them.

FYI:It was at my CC.

Here's the problem. Members think they can do whatever they want. As if they pay for the privilege to be a bitch and have no etiquette. At least it was a 2-some and not the 20+ old men that go out daily at my CC.

Two questions:

1. We're they being held up by other groups in front of them?

2. When you say hitting immediately when they moved on...was that, hitting shot into green while they're just off the surface, or hitting shot into green as they are getting in their cart?

She doesn't belong in a gold course. The correct position on a golf course is directly behind the group in front of you....not ahead of the group behind you.

I always understood, that you never step on the tee box until clear.

They should have let you play through if they felt rushed.

When I was younger I played 5 days each week and lived on the course in the summer. Some of the biggest dicks I've ever met were on the golf course...usually frickers who shoot 95 and think they're Phil Mickelson.

This.

Just beat me. If a group is crowding you, you wave them through.

If it is ruining your day wave the group through.

There's no use in waving a group through, though if the course is stacked. Sometimes people just need to understand that on a busy day there's nowhere for you to go.

You should only wave through if you are more than a half hole behind the group in front of you. If the course is backed up then it's the Marshalls job to move people thru.

If you are in the woods looking for your drives and the group ahead of you has already teed off the next hole and standing in the fairway you should wave the next group through.

If you are in the fairway ready to hit and the group ahead is just leaving the green then don't wave through you are keeping pace.

There is no such thing as "crowding you " on a course. Being ready to hit immediately when it's clear is how you are supposed to play.

You are right. But the OP obviously bothered the group ahead. It's golf. If something is in your head like, "oh dear. Am I holding that group up?" Then let them through. Or pair up.

My use of the word "crowding" is my opinion of what the old crabby woman thought.

IMO the OP is in the right. Unless you are gesticulating while they line up puts or approach shots. Or if your slapping shots into them as they climb into their carts.

It's simple really. It's golf. Don't let something creep in and ruin your day. Wave them on or let them pass at a tee box. Or at the turn. Certainly don't stew over it all day to the point that you raise hell on 18 green.

I will never side with a female on a pace of play issue. I need no details. You were correct her and her 7 practice swings before she dribbled the ball 17 yards are wrong.

100%

You should have told her, if she saw you were rushing them, they should have let you play through.

Not really, as long as he never hit into them.
