Turner Field is going to be sold to Atlanta-based real estate firm Carter and Georgia State University.

The Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority board announced Monday that the Carter and Georgia State team has been chosen as the winning bidder for Turner Field. The board will begin immediately negotiating a sale of the downtown baseball stadium and much of the surrounding parking lots, a news release said.

The announcement comes just a little more than two months after the agency put the ballpark up for sale through a competitive bid process, and about two years after the Atlanta Braves announced their plans to move to a new ballpark in Cobb County.

The Carter-Georgia State team plan involves a $300 million mix of student housing, apartments, retail and the conversion of Turner Field into a football stadium. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed publicly endorsed the Georgia State team when it first announced its interest in the site early last year.

Seems like it will be put to good use.

Should make for a very nice football stadium for GSU too.

They going to have some sort of rail system between the old Turner Field and GSU campus?

This may actually give Georgia State a chance to turn into a decent program.

well technically, the stadium will be part of campus. and it's not the worst walk from the existing campus (bad weather notwithstanding). just beef up those shuttles, that are already running, should be ok.

drawings I saw earlier of how this area could look were nice. curious to see how this all plays out.

Glad to see they're going to invest in the surronding area. UAB and Birmingham need to take note and fix the Legion feild mess.

Yes, IIRC UAB will play in a new stadium that is part of the BJCC.

I think part of the Streetcar expansion is planned to run down Capitol Avenue from the MARTA station.
