What do you want golf to do to not be white? They are already promoting First Tee and all of that other stuff. Also, Tiger Woods started a boom in golf interest almost 20 years ago. If there is going to be a movement away from it being a mostly white sport, it would be starting soon.

Could not be more wrong. Sports need stars or home teams. No home teams in golf, so you need a star. You need a Tiger or a Phil or a Jack. A strong personality and exceptional play that can separate from the pack and be cheered for or against. Doesn't need to be white, black, or other. An ambassador of the game so-to-speak

I'm the average viewer who watches when a player I care about is playing well, and doesn't watch otherwise, so I can say what they need for my audience, and a boring black guy winning is no better than a boring white guy

Gary Player is the "Black Knight". Maybe he is trying to make a comeback. If he doesn't, then they need to drop that nickname....because it is racist.

I would actually argue that you just need a winner. I don't care if Spieth is considered boring. He probably drove ratings extremely high on Monday for The Open. I know quite a few people that "worked from home" that day just to watch him chase history. If he would've won the British and been in contention on Sunday at the PGA, it would've been the highest rated Sunday in history most likely. Golf just needs someone that is going to go on a dominant run like Tiger did. Actually, I don't really think golf needs anything, but if you had to pick one thing.

Dont see how what he said was wrong.

Diversity and difference faces can only help the brand globalize, bring in different and untapped talent, and hetp the business.

It is true that people need to gravitate towards those that seem similar to them, even if its just a shallow phenotypical similarity.

Golf staying old and white will send it into the death spiral that major league baseball is currently in. If they want to stay antiquated and resemble the 1950s, then time will tell if that will be a business practice that lasts or has staying power

You don't know what you're talking about.. Arguably the second greatest golfer of all time is black.. He ushered in millions to the game along with the fans.. They were a diverse group.. The problem is the cost with a declining middle class and different set of
priorities.. Golf is game that takes considerable time and patience, something that our newer generation doesn't feel like using on golf

Well he says Rory doesn't have appeal because he's not an American. Then lists 4 people who have potential...with 3 of them not being American.

So, no. He's not spot on...

Poor old Gary Player. He's kind of lost it in the past few years.

I see the PGA tour being dominated by the chinese/japenese, like the LPGA is now, in about a decade.

Are ratings down? I know that when Tiger was on top ratings were through the roof. Maybe that is what he was talking about

Wait... So you're saying golf need exactly what Tiger Woods was crucified for by nearly all golf traditionalists?

Golf doesn't need shite. It's just fine with Tiger fading away and these young guys ready to fill the void. It would be better if Tiger made a turn around for the next 10 years, but it's just fine if not.

The assumption that blacks would just be automatically better at any sport they might have a chance to try is as racist as assuming they are stupid.

That's not what he is saying here but it is the reasoning behind the position that baseball doesn't have enough blacks, for example. People imply it in all sorts of arguments.

You know, if you overfill your tokens one place someplace else has to be short.
