SS Tulo. Jeter
at A-rods peak most analyst predicted that he would break the 800 home run mark. Not having him on this list automatically discredits it.

I am talking about at their peak even if it was just a year of two.

With this in mind... the best single-season WARs for each position in that time frame, based on where a player played the majority of his games:

SP: Clemens 1997 / Pedro 2000
RP:
C: Piazza 1997 /
1B: Pujols 2009 / Giambi 2001
2B: Biggio 1997 / Utley 2008
3B: Beltre 2004 / Rolen 2004
SS: Ripken 1991 / A-Rod 2000 / John Valentin 1995*
RF: Sosa 2001 / Harper 2015
CF: Trout 2012 / Griffey 1996
LF: Bonds 2001-02 / Rickey Henderson 1990
DH:

The list only included the top 500 seasons of all time, so no RPs or DHs made it, plus no second C made it from that time frame.

I'd go with Pudge as my second C, Rivera and Chapman as my RPs (although Hoffman should get consideration) and Ortiz and Edgar Martinez at my DH spots.

Rivera in 1996 has the best WAR for a RP that I've found, but he wasn't even the closer that season and pitched over 100 innings.

Notes: John Valentin? For real? Apparently that season at SS was better than anything Jeter, Tulo, Nomar, Rollins, Reyes, etc. have done.

SP and OF filled up the fastest... Johnson and Maddux were close. As was Larry Walker, Ichiro, and other OFs.

ETA: *I missed Ripken's 1991 season earlier, so Valentin actually gets bumped.

91 Cal Ripken is the greatest season ever for a SS to not have him listed is beyond blasphemy

You know what, I missed that one. Ripken and A-Rod as SS it is.

ETA: Several of those A-Rod seasons between Seattle and Texas and even his first few in NY blow Ripken out of the water on paper.

no 91 Ripken is better than any A-rod season. It's very easily 1 of the top 10 seasons since baseball was integrated

I'm just going to make a team not necessarily an all star team but one I'd try to use to win a championship

Starters: Martinez Clemens Johnson Kershaw Maddux

Middle: Andrew Miller Myers Dibble Charlton (can't break up the Nasty Boys)

Setup: Chapman KRod

Closer: Rivera

C Pudge Molina
1B: Pujols
2B: Alomar
SS: ARod
3B: Boggs
Utility: Vizquel

RF: Harper
LF: Henderson
CF: Griffey
Platoon: Bonds
DH: Molitor Gwynn

That's a pretty decent 25 I think. Maybe not

I think my order would go, trying to not get too situations they can bring Pitcher in to match up. Also protects power with good contact guys in front and get RBI situations all through the lineup.

Henderson
Alomar
DH
Griffey
Pujols
Harper
Pudge
ARod
Boggs

Not saying he is there yet, but by the end of his career Buster Posey should be able to make a strong argument that he is the best catcher of the last 25 years.
