Going to the Friday round (first time) and I've read where people will put a chair down then walk the course. I'm assuming there are no rules against this? If so, where are some of the better spots to drop a seat in the morning then come back afternoon?

Thanks!

There are specific areas around each hole that are designated seating areas and standing areas. Put your chairs anywhere in the seating area of the hole you choose and no one will take your seats.

I'd personally pick the 16th green. You can see the 15th hole across the pond as well.

Depends on hole locations for me. I always like going to a hole where I can see birdies being made. 16 is never a bad choice regardless of the pin location though.

Thanks for the reply. We're planning on being at the gates when they open Friday morning. Think we'll have trouble finding a good spot around 16? Any tips of getting to that spot quicker or will there be plenty of good spots available that early?

Come in the gates
Bypass the merchandise tent.
Walk in front of the big scoreboard
Cross 1 and 9
Walk down the hill left of 8
Go behind 7 green and make a right
You're now left of 17 fairway
Go down the hill to 16 and stake your spot.
Merchandise tent behind 16 tee (up in the trees)
Get a beer and a chicken sandwich.

16th green; but ignore the post above and go in the gate above the 16th green and just walk straight down to it.

Eta: Gate 9

And work on your power speed walk..

I haven't been in years but one of the places I loved hanging out while walking was in the tree line on 13.. you'll get to see a lot of interesting shots.. I still remember being about 15 ft from Tiger in 95 while he was an ameteur, watching him hit a cut long iron off the pine straw around a tree to about 20 ft on Saturday

I was there last year on Friday and parked it in the bleachers on 16. A chair there would be awesome. Just find a spot where you can see the tee shot on 17, the 2nd and 3rd shots of 15 and all of 16.

That's my opinion. 15 is a hole that can make some big scores and you always want to see some guy try to putt after getting in the wrong place on 16.

Went last year for Thursday's round with my son. One of the best places we found was sitting on the top row of the bleachers to the left of #15 green. You can see all the approach shots coming into 15. You can also turn around from the top row and watch players hit from #16 Tee.
Enjoy ! It's going to be awesome.

Wouldn't go in by 16. I've always enjoyed the atmosphere in the morning around the clubhouse.

I'd put a vote in for behind 12's tee box. You can watch all of 12, the green of 11, and from a distance you can see the tee shots of 13.

I go in by 16, put my chair down then walk the course back to the clubhouse. Then check who is on the range. Then work my way back to 16 following an interesting group.

Yeah, that's the way to do it if you want to have a chair by 16. My first time to Augusta I went in by the clubhouse and my seats weren't nearly as good. Thankfully I learned.
