I have a few dumb questions.

1). Do you have to shoot a free throw at 15 feet? Are you allowed to shoot at 18 feet or another distance if your jump shot is better than your foul shot? I've heard people being lights out from 3s but can't stand at the line with the same efficiency.

2). Does the team have to shoot the shots or can they elect to take the ball out of bounds? If a hack a shack happened ..

3) do the same rules apply for all levels? High school , College , Pro , international? I've heard different things hence why I'm confused.

I think you have to be in the semi circle and can jump as long as you land behind the line.

yep, you can shoot from anywhere in the semicircle and you can shoot jumpers or granny shots, etc. The only rule is that your foot cannot touch/cross the line until the ball hits the rim

because people would rather shoot set shots from the closest possible centered point.

There was a guy who shot a good 2-3 feet behind the line a few years ago in the NBA. Was a solid free throw shooter, too. Probably around 75 percent. Can't remember who it was though.

Nick Van Exel is probably who you are thinking of here.

Didn't Shaq shoot a foot or two behind the line for awhile? The thought process was that he could better extend his arms or something on his shot?

Imagine Ohio state is down one with no time left in the national championship, has a guy shooting an FT to tie it. How happy would you be if he shot from behind the three point line and missed?

That's actually an easy fix to this issue
