re: For all the hate the SEC gets about its offenses

quote:

Wow. And they used LSU as an example after having to play after Katrina and moving the game to Arizona. That is so stupid.

quote:

That's why, for example, LSU gave up 560 yards and 31 points to Arizona State but stymied its other seven, non-Pac-10 opponents to the tune of 258 yards and 11.4 points per game.

And what's funny is, they don't realize while at the same time arguing this offense/defense stuff, that LSU outscored Arizona St., soooo how "shitty" are these units exactly?

I love this stupid argument. How often do we hear the talking heads on tv say DEFENSE wins championships?

All the haters who attack the SEC offenses can suck it. It doesn't matter how we win, but we keep winning CHAMPIONSHIPS. Suck it haters!

Manziel was a Big12 QB playing against SEC defenses

Never played a down in the Big 12

quote:

A&M plays a BIg 12 style offense, he was recruited by a big 12 program

While the latter part is true, what exactly is a Big 12 style offense? I wasn't aware every offense in the Big 12 had the same style... They run a spread open style offense which gives Manziel lots of room to make decisions and use his athleticism.
The Big 12 doesn't own that type of offense in any sense

The only reason "Big 12 offenses" put up so much yards is because of the lack of defense in that conference.

Think about it. Manziel put up almost 600 yards of total offense and 6 touchdowns against what could only be described as the worst amalgam of half of the defenses in the Big 12 (Louisiana Tech)

now that is not entirely true

comparing the offensive systems and philosophies of the SEC and Big12 shows a stark contrast

many coaches have come to the SEC and proven you can win big by not being scared to play aggressive offense. sumlin is the next one

The best offense (statistically) in College Football history, led by a Heisman Trophy winner, was held to 14 points by a SEC defense.

and OU held UF's high-powered offense, too

same with UO-Auburn in the 2010 final

the real head scratcher is 2009, when Bama was getting abused by UT early, and then they let a really shitty QB who was a true freshman burning his RS put up a lot of points

UF's offense was potent, but not anywhere near as good as OU's offense was in 2008.

Remember, OU ended the season (before the NCG) with 6 STRAIGHT games of 50+ points per game.

That is insane.

To me, the biggest WTF is Auburn's defense holding Oregon to 19 points. Auburn's defense was nowhere near that of UF's 08 or Bama's 09/11 defenses.

The 09 NCG was more of Bama thinking the game was over at 24-6 at halftime, rather than Texas playing well IMO.

Bama could've destroyed Texas by 30 if they didn't let off the gas.

I tend to think those games are just coaches getting scared.

like jacks said, and i said in this thread, a lot of that just has to do with coaches being scared

a shitty CUSA D could hold gilbert to a shity game

re: For all the hate the SEC gets about its offenses
On a week to week basis SEC defenses are still comprised of 18-22 year old kids. They are bigger, stronger, and more athletic than other conferences but will still frick up, blow coverages, get beaten by good offenses. I think when given a month to prepare for one opponent and really go over a gameplan you see just how talented they are. If more SEC schools stressed aggressive offense like A&M I think you'd see the league's offensive production go up for sure on a weekly basis. You likely wouldn't see the track meets because defenders won't get gashed on 80 yard runs due to their speed, but you would see more games in the high 20s low 30s like the bama/uga championship game.

I guess we're a shitty CUSA defense then...because we held SMU to fewer points (3) than any other opponent this season.

I think it's more the long layoff takes the offenses out of synch.
