Will be attending my first Cubs game 14 May, I'm parking in the Halsted Flats at 3740 Halsted. Paid for parking on ParkforWrigley.com. Anything I should do to make the experience that more enjoyable?

*Life long Braves fan, but Wrigley and Fenway are on my bucket list.

Why are you not taking the L?

Where are your seats? How old are you? Are you bringing children? Do you drink? When are you getting to the area around Wrigley?

Dump that or just eat it. Take the L from your hotel or just Uber it to the line.

Too many drinking spots to drive

Without waiting for answers to my above post, I'm just going to repost from the Flight thread on the Rant board.

I'm a die hard Cubs fan and I love sitting in the bleachers. The heckling of the fielders is sometimes relentless, the drinking is heavy and the drunks wild cards, and by and large that area is more into the game than anywhere else in the stadium. It's like the student section of Wrigley.

Make sure to hit a few spots on Clark...Old Crow is a decent spot...country, BBQ (food is kind of "meh"), but a great bar with a retractable roof where the help wears sun dresses and cowboy boots, Houndstooth Saloon is a decent country bar with a small beer garden, Vine's has a great beer garden, Slugger's and Cubby Bear are classic Cubs bars.

Then head over to Murphy's Bleachers for one (it's right across from the bleacher entrance at Sheffield and Waveland). If the weather is nice, the "scenery" will be impressive.

So basically, driving to a Cubs game is dumb, unless you have no other options.

This. Just got back from Chicago and made my first trip to Wrigley. Had a station for the L right outside our hotel, but it's so much easier just to take the L than going park

As many others have already said, take the L to the game. On a weekend game with good weather the beer will be flowing and no way you're going to want to drive after the game.

For first trip I would sit in the bleachers. Get there an hour or so early and you've got great seats in the rowdiest part of the stadium.

Agree with all of this. I am season ticket holder in the bleachers and love it.

Really the only difference is that I like to go to Murphys pregame for a brat and a beer, and Cubby Bear post game because I like trashy cover bands and pretend they are good.

But I would thrown in Yakzeez as they have some very good wings. I also like Country Music night at Houndstooth and their 5 or 6 dollar 40s

Not sure if it is open, as it was closed around Christmas, but love Goose Island also which has a great/sneak outdoor patio for food.

And take the L or pretty well have the worst day of your life getting to and from the game.

Bleacher tickets for that game going for $91 on stubhub right now ($74 face)

I'm not sure I know of another stadium in the majors where bleacher tickets are so extraordinarily expensive.

It's closed unfortunately.

Hit Irish Oak after the game yesterday. No outdoor area but they have pretty good live music after every home game.

I'm traveling to Wright-Patterson AFB for training and I'm making the drive to Chicago Saturday morning and then driving back after the game. Don't plan on drinking much of anything since I will have a 5 1/2 to 6 hour drive back to WPAFB.

Don't know where to park for the L, made sense to park 3/10 of a mile from Wrigley and walk there. Am I setting myself up for failure after already paying for parking and hoping to get my parking spot?

I usually stop in Bernie's at the corner of Clark and Waveland for pregame beer. There never seems to be as many drunken douchebags in there.

Outfield Club Box 6, Row 4 | Seat 107

26, traveling by myself, will not be drinking much since I have a 6 hour drive back to WPAFB. Plan on getting to Chicago around 11ish for a 1:20 game time.

Yeah, that's definitely a long day. Yikes.

In that case, I'd say take the parking spot, but know that your exit from town is going to be a little slow (see what Waze says, but jumping on Lakeshore instead of heading over to 90/94 may save you some time). The bars on Clark are on the opposite side of the stadium from where you're parking.

I'd suggest finding a fun spot to grab some food and maybe one or two pregame drinks. Old Crow would be a good idea just because there would be a great scene there so you could take some of that in. But getting a chair might be tough unless you get there a few hours before the first pitch. A place like Bernie's or Yakzies (up clark to the north a block) would be less crowded, but also less tail.

This is good.

Also, Sheffields on Sheffield and Aldine is about four blocks south of the stadium and is a personal favorite. Great patio there.
