I keep saying this over and over, but Indycar has been the best racing to watch over the last few years of any series. Heck they even made Texas fun to watch, and I've fallen asleep twice while @ that track for a Nascar race.

Very cool. Didn't get to see in person until they came back to USA in 2012.

Last years model you didn't even need earplugs to sit close and watch.

My issue with IndyCar is don't they only have like 2 models of vehicles?

Love the extensive variations of F1.

There are pluses and minuses. The good thing about the IndyCars is that there is a lot of parity so the racing is better. In F1 every time they change the formula, one team figures it out before all the others and they dominate for a while like Mercedes is doing now.

Another thing that I think IndyCar is doing right is the limited number of push-to-pass attempts per race but the driver can use it whenever he wants to. This adds an extra element to race strategy. In F1, DRS can only be used when a car is within a second of the car in front and only in the designated DRS zones. This seems like a very artificial way of overtaking.

You're right that the variation in F1 cars is what makes it what it is. F1 is a big R&D lab that lets teams push the tech as far as it will go. But in reality all the variation is under the hood and in the software in the steering wheel. There are very few noticeable differences in the cars aside from the shape of the nose.

I'd like to see them drastically reduce the reliance on aero, which would then obviate the need for DRS. Then we might see some good racing again.

In short, in F1 the cars are what the sport is all about whereas in IndyCar it's more about the racing.

Agreed. That's the best looking livery so far. Hope their performance can back it up. RBR did pretty damn good with the Renault engine last year so now that they have a chassis actually designed for the power plant that's in it, they should be able to take a big step forward.

I agree. I think we'll see big gains from Renault this year. They've been around the block a few times, it won't take them long to get it figured out.

They say they're targeting 5th this year and hope to gain 0.3 sec from their new engine with another 0.3-0.4 seconds during the season. And adding Hulk to the lineup won't hurt. That puts them up against McHonda, Force India, Williams and STR. Maybe even Haas. Come to think of it, the mid-field racing should be pretty competitive.

How do you guys feel about the shark fin this year? I sort of like it but I'm already used to seeing it on the LMP cars.

Force India

Not too different from last year. They need to paint that shark fin a different color.

I'll let you know how the 2017 series plays out, saving you hours of watching.

Nico and Hamilton will win every other race, one will take his team mate out in a race, tensions at mercedez will get high, and both will cruise to #1 and #2 in standings.

Renault fired Palmer and hired him so that they can have an all-Nico lineup.
