They are one of the biggest schools in the state.

I imagine, at the high school level, its all/mostly coaching.

For example, my high school won 4 games over 4 years in football. Got a new coach, won 7 games and then was in the state title game the next year.

You think the talent drastically changed over night?

Because they ultimately have to play teams from South Louisiana.

Sometimes it does.

Ouachita is a very average team and beat them 2 out of 3. Something going on over there. I have heard some say coaching but I have no idea.

WM had some studs in the last 90s. They were a regular in New Iberia if I remember correctly

They got rid of a coach (Mark Sims) who had them in the State Tourney every year; supposedly a connected parent who was unhappy his kid wasn't playing was behind it.

With all those kids they should not have a slip in talent.

Youth and inexperience. They lost a lot of guys off last years team that made the semifinals. Coaching isn't the issue, they have a pretty good coaching staff

Mecca teams may have their off years in baseball but make up for it when football season starts.

Lost 8-9 seniors from the team that lost in semis last year. 1 and 4 hitters this year were freshmen. Just a young team. Lost to Zachary who is a stout program.

Do they like the coach over there? There is an old WM coach who is looking for a job.

This years season is a combination of things..they lost a lot of SRs from last years team (including all of their pitching) & this year's SR class was basically non-existent (1 starter on this year's team was a SR). But the thing that I think has hurt them the most is that they have had a lot of good players leave WM in the last 3-4 years. Not sure who you blame that on but for whatever reason, a lot of kids have left. Burkhalter moved to Ruston, Heisler moved to Mangham, Slaughter moved to OCS. All 3 of those are very good players including 2 of the best pitchers in North LA. Everyone always talks about kids coming into WM (especially for football) - but we have lost our share as well.

Was just a barb (pun intended). WM is outstanding in athletics, as is Ruston and Neville. It is odd though that the South Louisiana teams seem to dominate state championships at the 5A level.
