ESPN: stories with football players and sick kids.

Is anyone else tired of seeing this stuff every single year? I first remember seeing it with Justin Blackmon 3 years ago or so. Now it seems like there is a new one every year (Boykin and the girl with cerebral palsy). It's like they are trying to make these people look like really solid dudes when really Blackmon was a alcoholic crazy person.

Its why I don't watch Gameday anymore

I mean I'm all for doing nice things for sick kids but it feels like puff pieces to me for college football stars.

They're just trying to shed light that believe it or not, there are actually good guys in sports, and not just woman beaters and alcoholics. I personally don't like to watch it, but surely have no problem with the message. The struggle is real out there for some people.

Gameday wouldn't be the same without a Rinaldi piece on a kid with retinoblastoma.

I usually take it as something more about the kids then the players. It's not a bad thing, so getting upset about it is stupid.

People complain about how the media is only bad news. Until it's not

If you focus on the joy the kid receives and not the player, you wouldn't have a problem you miserable frick.

I was just thinking the same thing. More news about alcoholic coaches? Academic scandal?

Yeah baw I'm so miserable because I don't want my sports news muddled with fake story after fake story trying to paint certain players as good people. There are plenty of other outlets for those.

I'm not complaining about good or bad news. I watch ESPN for sports, not puff pieces trying to make athletes look better. I think it's great they do this stuff for terminally ill or very sick children. Put it on the front page of yahoo.

Rather its fake or not the kid is having the time of his life and is probably close to his death bed, it is just selfishness that your precious sports news is muddled with "fake" stories. Have a fricking heart and let the kid have his ten minutes in fame I could care less about the player

Or maybe, it can use be taken as what it is, people doing nice things. Even shitty people do nice things sometimes. Not everyone has to be 100% good or bad. I'm sure ray rice has done something nice in his life at some point.

Rick Reilly gets a boner when he hears about sick kids or a player that grew up in poverty.
