They just HAVE to talk about them.
Lakers: most wins all-time in NBA, 2nd most titles, 2nd biggest market, 2nd year after the death of the best owner in NBA history, twilight of one of the 10 greatest players of all time's career. Like it or not, everything the Lakers do in the next year or so will affect the rest of the league for years. For 50 years, the rest of the NBA has always had their eye on, among other things, the Lakers, who have always had one of the most ambitious and active front offices in the league. The Lakers are entering a new era, and the team's success during this era can be anywhere between pure shite and more titles. The Lakers organization has earned this obvious intrigue.
As for that other team, nobody likes rubber-necking like Americans, and the Knicks are a constant case of swinging for the fences and striking out. I LOVE the coverage their constant failure gets.

How'd Nash work out? H

Major free agent? The Lakers went full retard and gave up 4 picks that crippled the franchise. Nice spin guy

Maybe the NBA is just becoming more like the NFL. There is more parity and balance than ever and small-market teams win championships, but ESPN will always lead with the NFC East and what Rex Ryan did today.
I can settle for that.

No one would give up that much for an aging Nash
Not even the Knicks
Guess that was a major free agent to the Lakers tho. Another solid move by the Buss Family

Not that I remember too well, but did the Lakers have all that many options given their short-term goal of squeezing one more out of Kobe? Other than signing Nash and praying for the best (even if we all knew it was a long shot), who was there for the taking who would have benefitted them better and who was willing to put up with the Kobe dynamic?
Asking because I don't know.

They just had their highest rated Finals in a very long time.
People don't care about markets, they care about stars

But doesn't San Francisco care about the Warriors about as much as New York City cared about the New Jersey Nets?

the warriors are a pretty big draw throughout the bay area. at least they have been over the past few seasons as theyve become good

The Warriors are a big draw in San Fran as that's where they were for 30 years.

It isn't on of the traditional big markets. Steph on the other hand has become arguably as popular as Lebron.

i mean the only two true traditional markets are NY and LA, but the bay area has traditionally been a large market in sports on par with the chicagos and philadelphias and dallas'. i mean maybe not in basketball, but the bay area is a traditional large market

I disagree with your premise that LA is a traditional market. I think Philly is more traditional basketball town than LA.
Posted on 7/4/15 at 12:55 pm to RTR America
that was more of a statement on how them being a large market hasnt translated into them having a successful basketball team. doesnt change the fact that it is indeed a large market. by the logic that you have to have a successful franchise in order to be considered a large market, we can just assume that san antonio is a larger market than new york?

oh sms
the traditional basketball markets in this country are LA, chicago, NY, indiana, and north carolina
