quote:

ESPN fired baseball analyst Curt Schilling tonight, two days after he shared an anti-trans meme on Facebook. “ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated” said ESPN in a statement.

quote:

ESPN has long struggled with how to deal with employees who post or say objectionable things and things that some people find objectionable—two different if related things. Eighteen months ago we reported on the “minefield” that ESPN suspensions were creating for talent, and even with Schilling’s firing, nothing has changed. The lack of consistency means that ESPNers have no idea what is fair game and what isn’t. Employees are justifiably angry that they and their colleagues have been suspended, or could be suspended, for doing things far less egregious than what Schilling repeatedly got away with until he couldn’t.

No shock there.

In really don't get the bathroom issue. It extending to locker rooms is where I'd draw the line but bathrooms have stalls and privacy.

And I don't think the meme is what got him. He followed it with some stupid comments. And it wasn't his first over the line rant.

I love the hypocrisy of a company calling themselves inclusive, yet firing an employee whom actually has the same opinion as the majority of their consumers.

It's not like this was some isolated incident for Curt. He's done similar things in the past and was likely told by his bosses, multiple times, that he should stop.

ESPN apparently isn't as inclusive as they think. I used to identify as liberal, but this shite is getting out of hand.

Any chance Schilling could claim his sarcasm button was [OFF] when he posted that?

You can identify as liberal and think most social justice movements today are absurd. Lumping in all SJWs with liberals is as dumb as identifying all conservatives as bible thumpers.

At the end of the day, know your employer and their beliefs (or in this case "beliefs")... you have every right to disagree, but they should have every right to fire you for not espousing them.

I mean it shouldn't be hard to keep your job when one of the only things they tell you is to not be political on social media. Obviously Curt didn't really care.

It may not be a big deal to you, especially as a man.. But I can understand a woman or girl being uncomfortable with this.

Opposing the law/ruling/etc. doesn't make him anti any group, gent.
