October 1. Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau. This film will examine the tragic life of Hawaiian surfer Eddie Aikau, and is directed by Sam George.

October 8. Free Spirits. This one is going to look at the Spirits of St Louis leading into the NBA/ABA merger, and how the team is still existing and making money for their owners today. It's directed by Daniel H. Forer.

October 15. No Mas. The name should tell you all you need to know about this documentary: a look behind the scenes of the two fights between Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard. The director is Eric Drath.

October 22. Big Shot. Hey, another hockey documentary! Big Shot will break down the scandal involving John Spano's attempted purchase of the Islanders in 1996, and is directed by Kevin Connolly.

October 29. This is What They Want. Jimmy Connors' miraculous run in the 1991 US Open is examined, and is directed by Brian Koppleman and David Levien.

November 5. Tonya and Nancy. This is another one where the title makes it obvious what the subject matter will be: the incident between figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding in 1994. The director is Nanette Burstein.

My thoughts exactly.

The one about the ABA team might be good.

Yeah...nothing really interests me besides the Tonya and Nancy one.

I'm sure 2 or 3 others will be good....but nothing that exciting.

Sugar Ray fought Duran three times.. but I know the doc will probably be about the first two since #1 was Sugar Ray's first loss and #2 was the TKO.

I'll watch Kerrigan/Harding because I was like 10 years old when that happened. Embarrassed to say that I know where I was when I heard the news of that.

I read an article yesterday about Ray Mancini. It was in reference to a documentary he did called The Good Son. It chronicles his career but focuses on his fight with Duk Koo Kim, and how later on met his son and wife. We all know that Duk Koo Kim went into a coman and died after the fight. The article was enough to make me want to check out the doc, and honestly it looked a hell of a lot better than anything on that list of 30 for 30's from ESPN.

This should be good, especially when you consider how crazy that deal was that they're still making money off of it.

That sounds pretty interesting..

It seems like the 30 for 30s have been lacking as of late, although I did very much enjoy Survive and Advance.

With network TV deals becoming more and more lucrative, the deal has made the Silnas wealthy, earning them $186 million as of 2008, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and $255 million as of 2012 according to the New York Times.[1] (The NBA nearly succeeded in buying out the Silnas in 1982 by offering $5 million over eight years, but negotiations stalled when the siblings demanded $8 million over five.) On June 27, 2007, it was extended for another eight years, ensuring another $100 million-plus windfall for the Silnas. Presently, the Silnas receive $14.57 million a year, despite being owners of a team that hasn't played one minute of basketball in 35 years.[2]
