As a Celtics fan, I can't wait. Basketball isn't quite like this anymore.

Three parts, two nights. Starts this Tuesday and Wednesday and 8pm EDT/7pm CDT.

I lived in a split household. Half Celtics, half Lakers fans.

After this airing, there will be NO 4th of July gathering.

Gonna be lit, 5 of the best basketball players of the decade: Larry, Magic, Kareem, McHale and Worthy. Legendary battles and moments.

BEAT LA.

Excited for this.

Doubt it is as good as the Bird/Magic docs.

Why are teams like celtics and lakers who had hall of famers stacked ok but teams like the Heat with big three or golden state looked down on when guys go there and take a pay cut to win ?

Not complaining , just trying to understand the difference. Was it bc old school dynasties did it through the draft ?

It really was a combination of things. The Celtics and Lakers are the marquee NBA teams, like the Yankees and the Cowboys are in their leagues- when they win, it's just a little bit bigger, because even the older, casual observers see the team name and say "oh yeah, they're a good team".

Add to that Bird and Magic came in together, and were joined at the hip going back to the college game, and it was a perfect storm.

If this Golden State team were wearing purple and gold and playing home games in LA, there'd be more ... everything. Love, respect, hate and loathing.

Scoob I think you're right. Not many young people today realize Bird & Magic met up in the NCAA final (Michigan State/Indiana State) before they both jumped to the NBA. It was a perfect rivalry in so many ways

Probably because the Celtics drafted and developed 2 of their HOF'ers (Bird and McHale), and the Lakers drafted and developed 2 of theirs (Johnson and Worthy).

How many times did Ice Cube say "we was"? Shouldn't a narrator have a command of the English language?

Well done 30 for 30. I had no idea how much the league benefitted and grew from that rivalry
