Between every pitch they get their signals and look at their arm.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Are there that many calls to make in baseball?

Hit away, bunt, take, hit and run??

Am I missing something

Could be signaling what the next pitch might be. Batting is an educated guessing game so the coaches probably have studied the opposing pitcher more than the batters.

It's really common in high Scholls but not so much in college. But as someone else said it makes stealing signs almost impossible

Bunt

Sac? Push? Drag? All three of those require different signs

Squeeze play

Safety squeeze? Suicide squeeze? Double squeeze? Again all different signs

Then you have things like steal. Are they going on lefty's first move?

Take and ball past face also require signs. In college you're not verbally telling the hitter to take or see ball past face

You still have to relay the # of the play. If not, the other team would just assoicated "2" with bunt. It is retarded. Just memorize the signs. It was a basic requirement to play, back in the day.

There's more than one number in the play call. Usually it's 3 and the coach might give 4 with one of thwm being "dead." They probably use the same system football coaches use
