if the American flag doesn't represent an entire nation then why does the confederate flag represent an entire group of people.

I've had family members that lost their lives fighting for his right to disrespect the flag and all that it stands for, I for one hope he loses everything he has and then let's see if his new friends will give him shite. News flash they won't.

They said this is the 3rd game he's done it at. People are just now making a big deal about it. Fake outrage. "Oh no he didn't, he not standing for the national anthem. If he don't like it, he should leave, blah blah blah."

I didn't know this was his 3rd game. And I agree about your faux outrage point. I wouldn't have done it, and it's certainly misguided, but he seemed to be prepared to stand up and directly answer questions about it, which I actually did respect. This is the MSB, so I don't want to get too deep, but--symbols are important and can be extremely powerful, but you have to be careful to not let them become more important than the ideas they represent.

Flag was used in battle to kill soldiers that fought for the United States, fought to keep people FREE as that verse in star spangle banner. Then the flag was used during civil rights, to take a stand against the federal govt and say frick you to giving people certain rights. Confederate flag have a whole other meaning, but people love flying that and displaying that over the American flag. Are they being disrespectful too.

If the clown actually converted to Islam, then he has no right talking about the oppressed.

No religion oppreses people like Islam.

Another irony, is that these thoughts tend to come from those who call themselves "Christians." But this is definitely not the board for that.

"Like clockwork" is you mentioning your irrelevant feelings on the NFL....

It's the worst shtick on TD, and nobody cares. You have done it for so long ,and often, that I actually recognize your username.

If that is your intent, you are one sad man.

I have a confession to make yall... I, too do not stand during the national anthem. In fact i sit there on the couch. Or even worse, I go to the bathroom for a quick bathroom break, or kitchen for a quick snack break. The worst of all, instead of watching the national anthem, many times Ill change the channel until actual kickoff or tipoff.

I think Im a terrorist yall...

I thought you didn't buy into all that whitey shite in the SSB? The half informed version of Francis Scott Keys's history you spouted off about in a few threads seem to indicate that.

That was a brilliant comment by Brees. During the whole flag-burning phase a few years back, some lawmakers wanted to make it unconstitutional to burn the flag, but that was a stupid reaction. Freedom of Speech is our most sacred right, and that includes flag burning.

My thinking on that was that flag burners certainly had the right, but how stupid was it to burn the symbol of that which gives them the right to express themselves in that way?

The flag in fact represents the nation, the constitution; it does not represent politicians (i.e., the current government) or a particular Supreme Court decision that you may not like. The flag represents our rights as spelled out in the Bill of Rights, and it represents our three-branches "balance of powers" form of government. It represents the promise that the people have the power to change and improve our governance and way of life.

You can laugh all you want, but you have been on a sports board for at least a few years yapping about how you don't watch the NFL... Like you are trying to convert other people.
