I'm talking about Jackson.

Shoeless Joe should be in. He's dead. He didn't spend most of his life lying about it or behaving like a cheap pimp.

Imagine if Les Miles was a serial gambler, was accused of betting on LSU games, lied about it for 15+ years, admitted to betting on LSU games later on to sell a book, and showed zero contrition or remorse for his actions. I bet the reaction from LSU fans saying Rose deserves to be in the HOF would be wildly different.

No.
Pete lied about it for years and years before finally coming clean. He is a slime ball. Let him have his fun in Vegas but not Cooperstown.

The lifetime ban is from MLB. The HOF currently has a rule stating that no players on the lifetime ban list are eligible for induction, but they can change this anytime they want. Personally, I think the HOF has this rule as a cop out to avoid the negative press that might come along with possibly inducting a player who is on MLB's banned list.
Years ago this was an issue. He STILL wanted to manage a team.
There was something I recall hearing that if he was allowed into the HOF. He could technically be considered for jobs.
He's too old for that now. And I believe like you mention it can now be separate. Never manage but be in HOF.

I agree about Jackson. They are two different situations, but I wanted to point out that if Jackson hasn't been forgiven in almost 100 years we shouldn't expect anything different for Rose.
Jackson should have made it in a long time ago.

Did gambling on games help him get 4000 hits? If you're a fan of baseball he is the hit King and that should be respected. He didn't cheat like bonds to achieve the feat

He didn't throw the series.

No he did worse. Which he lied about that also because later on he admitted to more use.

On the contrary, I would argue that steroid users got a raw deal in the sense that baseball celebrated them and their tainted accomplishments when it was putting asses in the seats, then blackballed them after their career was over. Barry Bonds didn't know that steroid use would cost him a HOF induction. Pete Rose knew exactly what would happen if he bet on baseball and did it anyway because he felt he was above the law. Then he lied about it for a decade and a half. Nobody should have any sympathy for him

Does Pete Rose belong in the HOF?

He would be in the hall, but he bet on baseball. he did this to himself.

I've always thought he'd get in the day after he dies

Jackson spent most of the last 30 years of his life proclaiming his innocence, and evidence has surfaced that casts significant doubt on his involvement in the fix. Jackson reportedly refused the $5,000 bribe on two separate occasions—despite the fact that it would effectively double his salary—only to have teammate Lefty Williams toss the cash on the floor of his hotel room. Jackson then reportedly tried to tell White Sox owner Charles Comiskey about the fix, but Comiskey refused to meet with him.[23] Unable to afford legal counsel, Jackson was represented by team attorney Alfred Austrian—a clear conflict of interest. Before Jackson's grand jury testimony, Austrian allegedly elicited Jackson's admission of his supposed role in the fix by plying him with whiskey.[14] Austrian was also able to persuade the nearly illiterate Jackson to sign a waiver of immunity from prosecution.[23] Years later, the other seven players implicated in the scandal confirmed that Jackson was never at any of the meetings. Williams said that they only mentioned Jackson's name to give their plot more credibility. Jackson's performance during the series itself lends further credence to his assertions.[14] A 1993 article in The American Statistician reported the results of a statistical analysis of Jackson's contribution during the 1919 World Series, and concluded that there was "substantial support to Jackson's subsequent claims of innocence".[24]
An article in the September 2009 issue of Chicago Lawyer magazine argued that Eliot Asinof's 1963 book Eight Men Out, purporting to confirm Jackson's guilt, was based on inaccurate information; for example, Jackson never confessed to throwing the Series as Asinof claimed. Further, Asinof omitted key facts from publicly available documents such as the 1920 grand jury records and proceedings of Jackson's successful 1924 lawsuit against Comiskey to recover back pay for the 1920 and 1921 seasons. Asinof's use of fictional characters within a supposedly non-fiction account added further questions about the historical accuracy of the book.

Yes he does.
No one will break his hit record. At least in the next 100 years.

I hear allot of people comparing this issue to the Steroid Era.
I further believe they should be inducted, as well. A professional athlete should be allowed to use steroids to recover faster and smoke weed to stop the pain. Not just one doing it, in secret, with Jose Canseco in a bathroom stall; but all of them should be allowed to use them to heal their bodies.
