One of my favorite players, but he's about as robotic as you can get. He has to be on the scale...

No. He chooses not to be demonstrative more often than not. Was a lot more animated in college:

There is no such thing as Asperger's anymore it is now High Functioning Autism as defined by the new DSM and Medicaid.

Pre 80's NBA was the same when a dunk was " just 2 points" & players were real business like almost.

They were criticized for not caring. Today some are very demonstrative & they are told to " act as if you've been there".

Seems you can't win with fans/media.. What's the problem?

Tone is set at the top. He is Popovich's Frankenstein.

An Autism Spectrum Disorder (Aspergers is no longer a seperate diagnosis), is much more than just an introverted personally, especially in a very unique setting like basketball.

More importantly, it's more about deficits in one's ability to socially communicate more than just a personality trait like introversion.

Specifically, it usually results in signicant difficulties empathizing like a typical human being, understanding social cues, and understanding pragmatic & abstract communication. Often times, they take figurative language (like idioms) very literally.

I wish people would stop assuming a person (like when Barron Trump was at the RNC), had a disorder, which they know very little about, and which cannot be identified from an observation through a television in a very unique and specific setting.

90% of the players in the league are robotic. They spew the same redundant, clichéd crap whenever they're on the microphone.

I am utterly convinced Pop had him commissioned/cloned/grown in a fricking lab somewhere

I mean, he found a guy that made Tim Duncan look like a flipping carnival clown

^ All of this.

And it's likely just a product of his environment with the Spurs. It's that do work, keep your shite in check mentality that you see out more than Kawhi.

I'd say if you don't go out there and make a name for yourself and you aren't a top 10 player then your career may not last very long.

Swaggy P is literally still in the league just because of his persona, dude is a trash garbage player, but he's entertaining.

Like the Patriots, the Spurs acquire players who exhibit certain personality and character traits. A lot of their guys are cut from the same cloth during the Pop era.

I love his persona. Knocking down shots like this and then just jogging back down the court. It's extra insulting.

. I don't remember, but Was Stephen Jackson very unemotional?

I doubt if Pop cares if you do your damn job how demonstrative you are.

The Spurs lucked into 2 franchise players in Robinson & Duncan who just happen to be cerebral players . Got surrounded with similar players.

To a certain extent, I agree. It's important to note that, at least in Jackson's case, his emotions eventually landed him in Pop's doghouse and eventually off the team. Twice. But Manu, on the other hand, is extremely demonstrative and has fit right in, obviously. Malik Rose and Mario Elie were hardly reserved, as well.

It's like you said--the franchise players have mostly just happened to have been cut from the same even-keeled emotional cloth. Pop is willing to coach anyone who has "gotten over themselves" as he likes to say, and realizes that to be a Spur is to be a cog in a machine.

Exactly, talented but self-absorbed guys like Stephon Marbury, Steve Franchise, and even Derrick Rose wouldn't have cut it as Spurs players for very long.
