Does Clemson deserve a mulligan for outplaying Bama?

They clearly beat themselves and outplayed Bama aside from lucky/gimmicky plays. Also the clock operator likely cost them points before halftime.

While this year's format would not allow for it, do you believe them to be worthy of a mulligan given the precident?

I mean, Clemson outplayed Alabama for the majority of the plays in the game.

But not allowing the big plays is part of the game, and Clemson didn't do that.

Hell no. Clemson had so many busted coverages it's embarrassing.

Clemson played great but Bama stepped up and made big plays when they had to.

Clemson was just as good as Alabama. The onside kick broke their back.

Saban gameplanning to gain a possession with the on-side kick is what won that game. At that time the game was tied (and looked like it would continue to be 1:1 until the end of the game. 9 minutes left in the game is around 3 positions with the average for that game. If they kicked the ball off normally that would have given Clemson the ball to close out the game.

The way the game was going, the last team who had the ball would have won. The planned execution of that play to gain an extra possession won the game. Period.

Drake's kickoff return was huge too. Also both Bama and Clemson missed a FG each, either could have been hge.

But the last scoring drive by Clemson would negate that. The extra possession bled enough time off the clock and gave them the score they needed to be in control of the game from there on out. It was masterful coaching, and you can only coach like that if you train your players to execute masterfully.

No. It was a great game and Bama earned it more than Clemson.

Disagree.

Clemson getting the ball at midfield and Bama forcing a punt is what won that game. They choked that possession away with a chance to go up 10 points.

Each team played equally as hard IMO. You just have to pick the one play that swings control of the game to the winner. After the field goal and game was tied, time advantage for Clemson. After the on-side kick you literally flip the advantage and go down and score. That was the difference.

All that matters are wins and losses.

Both teams were deserving but Bama executed just a little better.

USC outplayed Texas.

Is that transitive to this game?

It didn't break their back. It did give Bama the extra possession needed in a tight game tho.

I wouldn't say any play broke Clemson's will...they fought through all the punches and came up just short.

This. And to single out a play, it was the fumble on the botched handoff that resulted in negative yards that killed that possession.

After Bama scored, I texted my ACC buddy (Miami grad) that only Dabo could have the ball on the 50, first down, up 3 - then three minutes later be down 10.

In hindsight, check that. Les could probably pull that off too.

Hold up. Clemson fans are whining about Bama using gimmicky plays?

Mulligans, along with the eye test, only apply to Bama.
