Do we have to continue the charade that Chris Sale is the best AL pitcher?

Kluber is better across the board. Lower ERA WHIP more wins more complete games more shut outs. To think that some on this board wanted Sale for MVP

They are both great. And Sale is easily a legit MVP candidate.

They have been about equally dominant on a per inning basis, so I'll take Sale's extra twenty innings of dominance.

It's pretty ridiculous to act like Sale hasn't been nails

5 games the Indians didnt need another pitcher compared to 1 for Sale.

Kluber allows less runs, less walks, less hits. But muh strikeouts

I believe we have had this argument before and it was pretty futile, so I'll just say we obviously don't evaluate pitchers value in the same way and leave it at that.

Literally the only metric Sale leads in is strikeouts which is the basis for fangraphs failure of a WAR metric.

That's a huge oversimplification of fWAR and Sale leads in B-Ref WAR as well.

ETA: Apparently Kluber is over him in B-Ref WAR, but Sale leads in Fangraphs alternate WAR that is based on runs allowed instead of FIP.

Sale comes in 5th in baseball refrence's WAR almost a solid point worse

When one guy leads in literally every meaningful metric yet comes in second with some arbitrary valuation of a stat that has next to zero effect on generation of runs which is what wins and loses games then its a failed stat.

Yeah, I corrected that. That version of WAR also has Gio Gonzalez as the second most valuable pitcher in baseball.

I don't think the 'extra 20 innings of dominance' carries as much weight anymore. This streak thing may not have much, if any, effect on October baseball. But it provides great moments that will stick in the head of a voter. A complete game for 20 in a row is just another notch to a great season.

You act like Kluber is blowing Sale away in these categories. Also, Sale has thrown 20 more innings, that is valuable. Sale also plays in a tougher division and in more of a hitter's park.

When you lead fWAR by a full win, I do think that does pretty much by default make you an MVP candidate. That isn't the only reason I think he is a candidate though. And I'm not even saying he should definitely win it, but the idea that he is a laughable choice is crazy to me.

The fact that you disregard the guy who gives up less runs, less baserunners, and goes further in games tells me how little you know about baseball.
