0-4, 3k

Just an off day, clearly still going to hit .285 with 35 homeruns.

Coghlan and Castro were a combined 0 for 7, so no.

The amount of hype for this kid is insane. He's got the potential to be a great player, but calm the heck down he's still insanely young.

It really is amazing. He has been an absolute beast at every level of ball since 2012, but there's almost no way he can live up to the hype at this rate.

Mike Trout has ruined an entire generation of baseball fans. Heck, I see people already calling Bryce Harper a bust. I could only imagine having to deal with that sort of pressure at 19-21 but it wouldn't have ended well.

he's 10months older than Bryce Harper! GTFO

Wait you mean he didn't hit a homer every time he came to the plate? Cubs fans and the media is putting way too much pressure on this kid. This isn't normal for baseball, Bryce Harper is maybe the only person I can compare this much hype to recently.

I think he can live up to the hype depending on your expectations. From what I have seen, he is the best prospect since Trout and Harper.
Don't forgot that Bryant's first professional game with the Boise Hawks saw him go 0-5 with 5 K's.

... And Bryce Harper is young.
The guy just played in his first major league game. The hype surrounding him, especially on a team like the Cubs, was ridiculous. I live a mile and a half south of Wrigley and get to hear about Bryant every waking day and it was clear to me that he would have a rough outing.
First, as good as he is, he struck out quite a bit last season in the minors. I believe he struck out 162 times in 138 games.
Second, James Shields has always been a pretty good strikeout pitcher. He's also a veteran that probably had a little extra motivation having to hear about Bryant non-stop over the last 24 hours.
Third, just the general hype around the guy had to have made him pretty tense. He has a bright future.
I'm a Twins fan and not a Cubs fan, but just wanted to share my general thoughts. Speaking of the Twins, I'm so very excited for Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton.

How could you bat the greatest, bestest, awesomest 1000% can't miss prospect anywhere else but cleanup?
Posted on 4/17/15 at 5:00 pm to steeltiger17
Reading this board I was expecting 4-4, 4HR's, 16 RBI.

This is his 4th season in majors and he has still never faced a pitcher younger than him!

@obxleatherman: Kris Bryant is now tied with Tony Gwynn for career games with three strikeouts.

Damn, that is fricking crazy that Gwynn only did that once

Exactly. Projections have him as a .260/.330/.500 guy with a 30% K rate this year. If he does that, I'll be ecstatic. But people will be labeling him a bust in the same some are labeling Harper a bust. Crazy talk.
