This kid I know has Yankee memorabilia all over his house and calls himself a fan, yet he may watch 3 games a year. I can't talk baseball with him because he doesn't know anything. I live in south Florida so all the fans are shite anyways. Also all these kids around me are fans of Florida state but can't name more than 10 players.

I had a friend who LOVED Florida, FSU, and then Alabama. I have no idea how that's even possible, but he did. And I swear, every time he rocked his new favorite team, he'd act 100% confused when people would question him about it.

I don't understand how people are like that. But no, it doesn't bother me.

Doesn't bother me but I don't take them serious.

The main thing that I can't take serious. Fan of a different college for each sport. Examples Kentucky bball/Alabama football, Duke bball/Ohio State football

They used to annoy me, but at the end of the day, the wins feel a lot better for the devoted fans, and that's a fact.

I know someone who travels to a bunch of LSU games, but couldn't name more than five players. Then you have someone like me who has followed every player since he was a recruit and spends hours wondering who will handle kickoffs.

But who is the real fan and who is the fake fan here? The guy who lives and breathes the team, but doesn't spend a dime? Or the guy who doesn't know the punter's name, but spends thousands a year going to games?

That's a good question. I didn't go to LSU and I've only been to a few games but I follow recruiting and know a lot about the team and feel way more invested than kids who root for their own university.

It shouldn't bother a mature person. Just worry about yourself.

It's wrong for the "fake" fan to talk trash after a big game to a coworker or friend who has a more serious interest. Other than that they can enjoy their rooting interests however they want. Genuine fandom can arise from curious roots, but I'm talking about a guy who clearly doesn't care one way or another by Monday.

I appreciate that my friends and I aren't blowing up each other's phones after the games between our schools.

Yes. I live in New England and have zero respect for Celtics, Patriots and Bruins fans who only care when the team is relevant. Only Red Sox fans (most) are legit. As a lifelong Pirates, Sixers and Vikings fan I get slightly annoyed by them.

So the guy is a "fake" fan because he doesn't do what you do?

I grew up in Lafayette, so I guess I'm used to it. Growing up most people wore FSU, Cowboys, 49ers gear. When the Red Sox won, instant life long fans emerged. Now, they are Ragin Cajun and Saints fans.

I have a buddy that lives in Dallas....wears burnt orange all the time....house is covered with UT stuff.....but yet has NEVER been to a game.

AND....when LSU played UT in the Cotton Bowl...I offered to GIVE him a ticket to go....and he said no.

But yet talked shite to me when UT beat LSU.

Doesn't bother me until I try to spark a convo about it and they have no idea what I'm talking about. Recently I was sitting next to a guy at work with P&G head to toe. I asked what he thought about the QB situation and his response was "Meh, that fournette kids got it locked up" ??????. True story

Doesn't mean he's a fake fan.

Fans that call out other fan's degree of passion are most annoying to me.

It doesn't matter. Sports is entertainment ultimately, not a way of life for everyone.

I say that being a diehard football fan myself. You can't expect everyone to be just like you.
