this def sounds like a lazy comparison. Jamarcus really didn't light up a room that I remember. he had somewhat of a reserved personality and would crack this little smile at times, but not too much. you might not know he's in the room if for no other reason than he's a big dude.

Jameis on the other hand is a lot more outgoing and more of a "you hear him before you see him" type. I almost agree with one of the scouts about him being somewhat of a salesman.

Yep, JR was shy and didn't want the spotlight on him. One of his biggest flaws since he's a QB

Some would argue that the multitude of comeback wins by Jameis this past season shows that he has great focus.

Just going off memory, it didn't seem like they asked Jamarcus to do as much as Jameis.

Your memory is wrong. Jamarcus ran Jimbo's system at LSU.

See the edit. 120 more pass attempts.

Others would argue that he wouldn't be down to weaker competition later in games if he was fully focused for the other 3 quarters of the game

And Jamarcus was very efficient as our QB in 2006. He was very damn good at LSU and not just because he was talented.

Probably because he was down every second half the entire year.

They ran the same system. They had similar check downs, reads, etc. and were given similar responsibilities going into games.

It is a completely different game. JR would bring 3+ plays to the LOS with him at a time and was free to call his own plays and audible.

Jimbo still speaks very highly of college Jamarcus

quote:

“I never knew that guy,” Fisher said on ESPN 760, talking about the lazy player Russell has become. “His work ethic for us — everything I ever asked him to do, he did. He was smart, he carried three and four play packages at the line of scrimmage.”

Fisher, like others, pointed to the passing of Russell’s mentor and Uncle Ray as a possible obstacle Russell struggled to get over.

“He is very talented and he is very intelligent,” Fisher said. “Intelligence isn’t an issue with him.”

This.

He was a smart QB at LSU. He just got lazy in the pros with 60 million and no support system in a crap org.

Also I never heard "high football IQ" and Russell in the same sentence, ever. Everything leading up to the draft was about Russell's size and arm strength. With Winston it's about his understanding of the game, leadership on the field, and passion. I don't think anyone would claim those were Russell's strengths.

I imagine there are worse QBs to compare Winston to but Russell certainly is a horrible comparison.

FSU's O-Line and Recieving core while Winston has been there has been absolutely ridiculous. Easily both top 5 units in the country.

How are you assessing this? By star rating or by who was drafted?

I'd argue that EJ Manuel had more talent around him than Winston

The BC and Florida games were downright horrendous. Something was wrong with him last year.

Lost a lot on OL and no Kelvin Benjamin to bail him out.

So we agree that he was asked to do more.

I'm not dogging Russell. Just saying that more was asked of Winston.

Kiffin definitely didn't want him in Oakland.

Without a doubt Winston was asked to do more at FSU.

He had to throw more, yes, but he had the same responsibilities and the same offense and put up excellent efficiency ratings and was low on turnovers.

I don't know what you're trying to prove here.

That Winston was asked to do more. I thought that was clear.
