Did you believe Mark McGwire was using steroids during his HR chase in 1998?

During that time, did you believe he was using or at least suspect it.

I remember people being in complete denial, to the point where it was ridiculous to even imply it.

I strongly believed that he did and of course people thought I was nuts.

What?

To answer your question, though....no. I was 8. I watched him an Sosa as often as I could and if I missed their games I'd run to the TV in the morning to see if either had gone deep the night before.

I'll never enjoy a sport like I did baseball that year. It was just magic to me.

No not at the time. Thought it was all creatine (SI that spring ran a huge story in the baseball preseason issue about how all the players were using creatine and it was this great new thing) Laughable now but at the time seemed legit

I honestly don't give a damn. He was hitting against pitchers who were using.

Him, Sosa, and Bonds were a huge part of my childhood.

He had used for a decade at that point.

He and canseco used to shoot up in the Oakland stadium in the 80s

I was confident that Brady Anderson was I can guarantee you that.

In the back of my mind I always knew Sammy was on something.

McGwire definitely looked the juicer part, but he had power history so I thought maybe

70 HR's in a season is quite redonculous, so I was skeptical that he was perfectly clean.

I don't care. I was thoroughly entertained. You absolutely can not convince me that there aren't members in the hall of fame that used some sort of drugs or performance enhancement.

Dance for me monkey. He and Sosa did.

he could barely walk when he was with the A's at the end of his stint there.

someone gave him some MD prescribed steroids for his foot. it worked. he never stopped using after his foot healed.

the rest you know. St Louis benefitted.

He did hit 49 his rookie season with the As although he hit the wall and didn't do anything the whole last month of his rookie year.

Him and Sosa saved baseball. Steroids are awesome

No, he was openly taking creatine and androstenedione so I figured he was juicing within the rules.

I was 14 at the time and a little skeptical, but never thought about it any deeper than being really entertained by the whole thing. My Dad alluded to the possibilty a few times, but never smartened me up all the way.

I was 10 in 1988. I just assumed he ate his Wheaties.

I believed the androstenedione talk, I suppose. But then again I was 13 at the time. Was just really fun to watch. Remember fondly my dad and I watching his 63rd HR to break record (or was it 62?)

I didn't think about it, and didn't care.
I was about 12 at that time and remember setting alarms on my watch so me and my friends could run imside to catch their games when they got close to the record, and i remember where i was when McGuire hit his record breaker against the cubs.

Baseball is no where near that kind of popularity anytime soon.

I thought he was. I thought Lance Armstrong was. I think Usain Bolt was.
