the Triangle (Fayetteville, Raleigh, Durham)

Just semantics but Fayettenam is not part of the triangle. That would be Greensboro.

There is no way UVa leaves the ACC for the SEC. The alumni base and administration are tied to the idea of the original academic elite of the old ACC with UNC, Duke, Wake, GT. If they go anywhere it would be the Big 10. The major issue with the SEC is the lack of the Olympic sports that UVa excels in. Men;s Soccer, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, etc. If they were to join the SEC those sports would have to go to the A10 or CAA.. LOL-no.

Actually, Greensboro is part of the TRIAD, which consists of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point.

The actual "Research Triangle" consists of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. I included Fayetteville because of Ft. Bragg, a heavy contributor to the triangle from outside.

Either one of three things happens:
1. The ACC collapses under itself for an unexplained reason, with some going to the SEC and Big 10. The rest join the Big 12, and college football's conference look like an abortion.
2. The Pac 12 makes an offer to Texas and Oklahoma that includes TTU and Okie Lite, the rest of the conference and any Big East team that still respects its athletic program go fill the Big 10, SEC, and ACC in.
3. The ACC remains stable and the Pac 12 makes no plays. The Big 12 tries to show its still relevant in college football and grabs some teams that don't deserve to be elevated.

The only way I see this happening is if Florida State, Clemson, and Miami bolt after Maryland doesn't pay anywhere near the $52 Million that the ACC wants in reparations

This is the most likely scenario, although Baylor will make the divorce rather nasty for Texas. (Think Kim Mulkey temper tantrum x 1 million)

Texas has too big of an ego to allow the last part to happen. They will go independent first.

I don't see than happening once DeLoss is gone. They way over shot with the LHN. A Big12 that adds FSU, Clemson would be too much revenue for even them to pass on.

You're assuming he leaves gracefully in 1-2 years and that the next president after Powers has the balls to go against him...and you assumed I meant Florida State or Clemson.

What he was referring to by "teams that don't deserve to be elevated" was a group of teams such as Cincinnati, South Florida, Houston, Colorado State, etc, not a team that actually has won a national championship in my lifetime.

He will retire or die eventually. I suspect he leaves sooner rather than later. The lack of success of the LHN has to dampen any thoughts of going indy and while ole DeLoss is very powerful, he over shot with the LHN and I don't even he would try and go indy.

And no I meant FSU and Clemson to get to 12, GT and L'Ville might be viable options as well. The grand slam for the Big12 would be Notre Dame, now i don;t think they will join a conference, but if they do it will not be the B1G because of the CIC. They could keep the ACC together or strength the Big 12. That's the only 2 options even remotely possible.
