Saturday marks the "Heroic Four" of Blizzard Entertainment's "Heroes of the Dorm," a 64-team tournament based on Blizzard's popular "Heroes of the Storm" video game. The tourney has played out over the past month or so among American and Canadian university students, and now we're down to the final four. The semifinals will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on Saturday, with the Grand Finals airing Sunday on ESPN 2, also at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

Why do I have a feeling Blizzard paid for this air time.

I actually did watch some of this just for the entertainment factor. Pretty hilarious to watch the passion of those people.

They just had a video game tournament in Columbus Ohio at Nationwide Arena, home of the Blue Jackets. It was sold out for 3 straight days for $50 a ticket. Arena packed with people just watching others playing a FPS game. The prize for the winning team was 1 Million Dollars. Craziness!

I watched for about 15 minutes and had absolutely no idea what was going on. Also, the commentators were eerily good broadcasters. Does anyone know what they do the other 364 days a year?

on a nightly basis there are multiple people streaming on twitch playing League of Legends and Hearthstone and shite like that with 20k+ people watching just the 1 stream. It's pretty nuts. The big LoL/Dota tournaments get insane streaming numbers...just looked it up, the final match for last year's League world championships pulled 36 million viewers, and hit 14 million people all watching at once.

Turned it on and for some odd reason, kept it on for 2 hours.. Would usually surf during game breaks but it's oddly satisfying to watch if you enjoy strategic game theory.

A lot of these types of games have very talented and professional broadcasting crews.

League of Legends comes to mind.
