Per Peter King's MMQB article today, the Browns asked him to play in the Senior Bowl and he declined. Already trying to avoid going to Cleveland.

quote:

4. I think this qualifies as a terrific waste of opportunity: Quarterback Deshaun Watson is skipping the Senior Bowl this week. Clemson’s Watson would logically have played for the South team, which will be coached by Hue Jackson and his Cleveland Browns’ assistants. If you’ve got faith in your ability, and you want to convince the coach of the team with the first pick in the draft—the team that desperately needs a quarterback and will almost certainly choose one high in the draft if it can’t trade for one or sign one before that—why would you not take the golden opportunity to work with Jackson for a week? The other two prime quarterbacks in the draft, Mitch Trubisky and DeShone Kizer, were not eligible, either because they weren’t seniors or because they hadn’t graduated. But a couple notes about the Watson miss: The Browns talked to him and asked him to play this week; he declined

Good move on his part.

Why are the Browns coaching the south team?

Watson has proven himself. No sense in him playing and risking injury.

As a Browns fan, I can confirm this is smart on his part.

This just proves that the Browns are the worst run franchise in all of sports. Hey, DeShaun you just would the National Title and finished 2nd in the Heisman voting. Would you mind coming to the Senior bowl so a bunch of guys trying to make a name for themselves can try and knock you out? Because our scouts are really nervous with this pick.

He's played 30 games in two seasons. That's a lot of football for a guy in college and a lot of film. I'm sure they wanted interactions on the practice field, but he probably wants a chance to rest up for workouts, combine, etc.

Should have gone there and just been a dick to the assistants so they don't draft him

Yeah I mean, they have way more than enough film on him. Including two games against Saban's defense.
He can only hurt his stock.

He is smart. I saw on NFL Network's ticker that one of their talking heads had Trubisky and Kizer going in the first 5 or 6 picks in the first round, and Watson going 25th to Houston. What damned alternate universe does that come from? I can understand NFL reservations about Watson's playing style but I would take his leadership, raw ability, and clutch-ness over those other two every day of the week.

If Bill O'Brien gets DeShaun watch out for the Texans.

I just can't see him being around at the 25th pick but may the good Lord help him if he goes to Cleveland.

He needs to send a flaming bag of his shite to Sashi Brown with a nice note telling him to forget his name on draft day.

I like the idea of him being on the Texans roster, but I hate O'Brien's offense for Deshaun. I'd hope he'd be reasonable enough to tweak it to really maximize some of Deshaun's gifts.

Not a chance in hell he slides that far.

Teams that don't need a QB right now would still grab him before that.

He's smart, athletic, driven, and has good arm strength.

What about Kyle Shanahan at the 49ers? Team is in disarray but I could see Deshaun being electric in that system.

Would be one of the best things that could ever happen to him. That is by far one of my favorite landing spots for him.
