While Ausmus has been a terrible manager, Dombrowski's contract was up at the end of the year and the rumors were that he wasn't coming back. It's starting to seem that Dombrowski fell on his sword selling at the deadline last week (which was the right thing to do). Letting him go now allows DD to find a new job before the start of the off season and allows Al Avila to get GM experience before the off season as well. It also wouldn't surprised me if Ausmus is fired in the off season so Avila can bring one of his guys in to manage.

Yeah I was just reading and didn't know his contract was up at the end of the year. I thought they did pretty well at the deadline getting quality young talent that could contribute next year. He would be a good get for someone like Milwaukee who probably needs a new GM

frick. Welp, let's see what next year brings. I had for years been on the "In Dave We Trust" bandwagon.

A little weird because he's done a great job putting together a very competitive roster over last 10 years for the most part

If he wasn't going to come back then I understand, but if this was ownership a decision I think they're overreacting to 1 year of underperforming when their best player is out and they'll regret it

I am actually of the belief that they will be back to world series contenders next year. There is a good core offense in place: Miggy, Kinsler, Iggy, Castellanos, McCann, JD, Vmart, and Gose. They will also have over 80 million coming off the books next year. There are reports that Cespedes wants to resign even after he got traded, so you get him back and then there are a ton of quality starting pitching who will be free agents(Cueto, Kazmir, Samardzija, Fister, Zimmermann, etc) so if you can sign 1 or 2 of those and maybe add a couple bullpen pieces plus they just restocked the farm with quality young pitching that is close to major league ready and boom! the Tigers are back.

This is a major move. Someone will get a very good General Manager.

According to Baseball Reference its 60 million.

JD Martinez is in arbitration so he will get a sizable bump. So there goes another 10 million.

And that assumes the owner wants to shell out 170 million again next year.

This is big news in Detroit. I honestly liked Dombrowski and the moves he made. He was able to look at the Tigers' weaknesses and fix them when necessary. He had some tough luck in a couple of Detroit's World Series appearance where the offense went as cold as ice. His bullpens he acquired were probably his biggest demise though; as they have been unstable since 2006.

As a regular listener of mlb radio they mentioned numerous times over the last few weeks he would be the favorite to take over as president of the Blue Jays if he were to go after this year.

Yeah, it was a nice run. I don't follow this stuff that closely, but a big knock on him was that he destroyed the farm system. Well, he just stocked that last week. I guess you could say he should have blown the cash on Scherzer instead of Verlander, but that's easy to say in hindsight. The one deal that fans were mad about at the time that was right is he seemed to get a bad return for Fister. I wonder if Ilitch is in for a slight rebuild or he will still sell out to try to see a championship before he dies.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo thinks Dombrowski should reset the market for front office guys.

Kinsler is second in WAR for second baseman and is hitting .297. Iggy is a good contact hitter that is hitting .318 which is good for even a non short stop. Castellanos is only 23 years old and has 11 homeruns. He has hit over .350 the last two months, showing signs of breaking out of it. Gose is also young an elite CF defensively. You'll take .260-.280 from him.

Iggy is a replacement level hitter even at .318, because he has no power whatsoever.

Nick C is hitting .240 the last two months, not .350.

Gose is a good fielder but not sure what that has to do with offense that you mentioned,
he's borderline replaceable.

Kinsler is still hanging on but if you are hanging your hat on a 34 year old 2B, good luck.

ETA: since you only mentioned BAtting average, I'll assume you are over 50 or don't follow baseball closely and cut you some slack.

I'm 25 but I don't see what that has to do with anything.
