It sounds like Luhnow is leaning toward Gattis being our starting catcher and Castro won't be back.

quote:

Luhnow expects Evan Gattis (32 home runs, .826 OPS in 2016) to be the starter, but would like to acquire someone to split the workload.

"Evan's going to catch for us, and we need another catcher," Luhnow said. "He did a nice job catching for us [starting 49 games]. I think he can handle the demands of everyday catcher. He showed the capability to go out there and play regularly in that position and still contribute offensively. He's a great piece to have, and we need to complement him with another catcher."

I would be fine with getting a solid defensive vet like Nick Hundley to split time with Gattis. I would be a little nervous rolling with Stassi as that guy because of the risk Gattis gets hurt.

I want Beltran as a primary DH who could maybe play some LF here and there, a cheaper full time OF (Jon Jay?) then trade for a SP

And also a LH reliever

Totally agree. Would not be very happy if Stassi ended up being the other catcher. Someone like McCann would be nice cause he'd also be able to DH.

If Stassi was the backup, it would mean Gattis catches like 80% of the time. It would be ideal to let him catch maybe 60-65% of games and DH so he won't get completely worn out

Once again I completely agree. Interested to see if adding Reymin Guduan to the 40 man means they think he could be that guy, or if they just didn't want him to be released

Jays also signed Kendrys Morales. 3 yr/$33 million. Could mean they're out on Edwin.

If they traded Springer for a fricking catcher, I'll become a Red Sox fan with the rest of the life long fans since 2003

Realistically signing him means Encarnacion is probably gone. Who are the suitors for encarnacion besides us and boston? Boston said recently they wont break the bank to replace papi, just curious who else wants him. I have wet dreams about encarnacion hitting shots into the crawford boxes

Disagree. He's been good the past couple years, but I think Morales will start to decline quickly. At least that's what I think.
