It won't be 1B bc he said Valbuena would go to 1st if needed.

Won't be getting Chen. We'll be getting low level prospects that don't need to be on the 40 so we can clear a 40 spot.

Chen isn't a difference maker. We need someone who would start a game in the playoffs

Chen would be the third best pitcher on our current staff easy

And again we aren't getting him because he's the second best starter on a team currently leading their division

And yet he is in the final year of his deal and totally pissed off that he was sent down to the minors for 10 days (thus, he is far less likely to resign).

Baltimore also has Gausman ready to pitch in the rotation. If we gave them Obie and Hoes, that just might get us Chen. Plus, he's a Boras client.

Any chance Boston would be willing to part with Buchholz?

Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB
2nd-rder Thomas Eshelman signs w/@Astros for $1.1 mil (slot = $1,325,700). CS Fullerton RHP, best strike-thrower in NCAA history. @MLBDraft

That gives the Astros a total of $1,114,800 plus $100,000 per player that they can spend on Sandoval or Sands.

I'm sure he won't resign, but they are trying to win this year. They will get a comp pick when he signs elsewhere, I don't see trading one of your best pitchers and hurting your chances of winning this year plus surrendering a comp pick worth getting a back end starter and a AAAA OF.

Maybe not. But he could be on the table if they like their other pitching options.

They're a strange organization overall, how they've handled Gausman while having a shaky rotation is extremely odd

Eschelmen is a very intriguing guy.

Especially their pitching. Outside of Tillman, they seem to see the other arms are just spokes in the wheel.

I love the Eshelman pick. With his insane command, he could potentially learn or tweak just one pitch that can become a plus offering. Then, he becomes a legit starter for a long time.

He should move through the system quickly also. It was the perfect pick for us at that point in the draft I think

I only got to see him vs Vandy in Omaha but I loved what I saw

Do you think about the things you say before you post them?

Hopefully, he's already mastered the slide step.
