Now that spring training is upon us it is time to ask the question that all Stros fans have asked for far too long. When will George Springer get the call up to the show?

Well here is a website dedicated to the age old question.

With the additions in the offseason, the minor league team is stacked. I can't wait for the minor league playoffs again in Sept.

The future is bright and when that talent comes to fruition it will feel so good for all us fans who stuck through these dark days.

Really hope Springer has a great spring training and makes the opening day lineup. Everyone knows (hopes) that he will get called up this season. If it is sooner rather than later I believe that if he performs remotely close to his 2013 season he could be AL rookie of the year.

The Super-2 rule means a delay calling him up rather than having him on the Opening Day roster is smart business for the Astros:

quote:

• If the Astros add Springer to the roster for opening day, he potentially could become a free agent after 2019 season.

• If they wait to promote him until April 10 at the earliest, the Astros guarantee Springer can’t become a free agent until after the 2020 season.

They could also wait until the following april 10th and he won't come a free agent until 2021! brilliant!

Seriously he's not just out of highschool. He'll be 30 in 2019... 30!

for the most part, baseball players are in their prime from 26ish to about 30.

I get what you're saying, it does make business sense, but as C said, he will be 30 in 2019. Holding off that long will only give you one more year before you have to pay the man. All you will be doing is delaying the inevitable by 1 year.

You need to temper your expectations if you're expecting anything within 2 stratospheres of last year's minor league numbers early on in his MLB career.

I know it's unrealistic to expect players to play as well in the bigs as the minors. Example of that is Wallace. But I think springer is the real deal and at this point in his development the best way to get better is to play better talent. I am an optimist though.

I think this is close. Whoever gets the start out of ST probably only has 6 weeks to show reason to keep Springer out of the starting MLB lineup.
