Interpretation: the first LHR we acquired has been pure shite so we're going to continue looking for a LHR that can get somebody out.

Baseball America on Whitley's jump to Double-A today hints at a mid-summer MLB debut for him next season based on past guys like him:

What are..things that should have happened a month ago.

Also, this may be an indication of Feliz's injury status. Went on the DL with "shoulder discomfort" two weeks ago and we haven't heard a peep on him since.

I just read that Ric Flair is not doing well and is in ICU in a hospital near Atlanta. Could the Nature Boy's poor health be a reason for Reddick's slump?

If they are that much of believers in him I 100% get why he's untouchable however you gotta be flexible with others. I hope the kid lives up to his billing. I know that the traditional guys like Nolan Ryan loved him and obviously the metrics nerds like ludlow love him.

I'll knock on some wood. But maybe it's time we openly showed some trust in Luke Gregerson again.

Since his 6ER meltdown against the Royals on April 8th

42.1IP 37H 51K 14BB 2.98 ERA. 10.8 K/9 52% GB rate.

It seems Tyler Clippard's overall numbers suffer from a similar situation. He pitched 3 times in a 5 game stretch during June where he allowed 9 of the 22 earned runs he's allowed on the year.

Prior to that stretch he had allowed 16 hits in 28.1IP with a 2.22 ERA and 10.8 K/9. Since then, 12H in 16.2 innings 10.3 K/9 3.24 ERA. Although his walks per 9 is above 5 in that stretch.

Saw a stat earlier that Clippard allowed 15 ER in 15 innings at Yankee stadium

7 ER in the other 25-30 innings

So note to Jeff and AJ, maybe don't pitch him at yankee stadium if we see them in the playoffs

It seems we are getting closer to where the pen needs to be with this deal.

Playoff pen as of now:
Giles, healthy Harris, Devo, Luke, Clippard, Peacock, Musgrove and (at this point there's no other choice) Liriano as the lefty.

But the fact that Jabroni and Morton are the starting options for Games 3 & 4? If not adding Verlander, getting another proven vet reliever helps make the quick hooks easier.

The question is do we get a starter like a Marco Estrada, or a LH who is better than Liriano? I think it will end up being the reliever. Jabroni and Morton have been up and down, but adding a starter (besides Verlander) who's a clear upgrade over Morton and Jabroni could be tough.

It's tough to say without knowing who is really available though

I think we try to get another reliever (Storen maybe) but I don't see any lefties out there to be had.

Storen would be a great pickup. I saw Jerry Blevins didn't make it through waivers, he was someone I was hoping we could get if he did. Because there's so few options in that market they're probably much more likely to get blocked

MLB Trade Rumors suggests Derek Holland could be an Astros target for another Liriano-type lefty experiment. But we just made a deal with the White Sox so one would think it would have already happened.

Yes. He was absolutely filthy in that game vs. the White Sox where they got the cheap hits and had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no out....then he pitched out of it.

Yeah I don't see that. I think any lefty is gonna be a guy who is already a reliever and is struggling this year that they think they can turn around. Also take with a huge grain of salt but I saw this posted on ClutchFans like an hour ago. Passan is pretty plugged in if he actually said this on Chicago sports radio

quote:

For what it is worth, Jeff Passan just said that he believes Verlander will be dealt on 670 the score in Chicago. He didn't say where to, but said there is someone that needs him and is motivated.

I believe it. I think it's the Cubs.

Darkhorse: Angels (they'd eat the whole contract).

Could also be the Yankees, they lost Sabathia and Tanaka to the DL and don't want to lose a wild card spot, plus the division isn't out of reach.

Mariners are another I would wonder about. Regardless I don't think it's us but interesting nonetheless. If he does get moved hopefully it's to an NL team.
