Remember that time the team's second best player stole the team's best player's hat after a walkoff win?

The best player on this team varies, by game.

There's no way that Aoki continues to start over Marisnick, is there?

Jake will eventually come down from this 40% K rate/.429 BABIP cloud, but it's great to see him be a big part of this team's success. Pretty obvious everyone on this team loves him

And he deserves to play a lot until those numbers do even out

The thing is, we kind of need to see where an extended Jake playing stretch takes us.

Why? Because his swing change has tapped into his raw power. He could be a Chris Carter/Joey Gallo with elite speed and defense now. We just don't know. But we do know he's got a lot more pop that Aoki.

Who knows, but I've enjoyed the power output out of Jake in the spurts he's gotten opportunities. Could he do this daily? Who knows, but I really have come to like his role as 7th inning on insert in close games.

Exactly. His swing is pretty right now and very smooth. If its real I want to find out now and not 3-4 years down the road with another club a la JD martinez. Even if it is a hot stretch like hes had in the past lets ride that hot stretch. Hes a difference maker everywhere except for the plate even when hes not hitting like this.

I don't think he can. Which is why I don't have a problem with how Hinch is managing the roster.

Stick with what is working.

For sure, but the 285/360 AVG/OBP isn't close to sustainable, that's all I'm trying to say. We don't need that from him though if he's 230/310 with 20-25 HR Pop and his normal speed and D that's great. And I agree that's why you need to give him some regular run

Remember April of 2015? When Jake hit .379 with 2 homers for the month. With a BAbip of .426.

That crashed back to Earth and he hit .206 the rest of the season with a .280 BAbip. I'm not under any ideas that his hot streak is anything other than that. The production is nice. As long as he's hitting, he plays. But his batters profile is a mess. He doesn't make much contact, strikes out 40% of the time, he's lucky on balls in play and 40+% of his flyballs have turned into home runs. None of that is sustainable.

Regardless, you keep playing him and Marwin til they come crashing back down. Ride the wave

Agreed. We know who he is and what he brings to the plate and everyone wants to keep playing him every day. Everyone here knows he's going to come crashing back down. He's succeeding the way he's being used right now. Not a ton of pressure and he knows his role. He thrives in it and his numbers reflect that.

Jake changed his swing to tap into his power. He may be able to TTO his way into a regular starter. That's the point.

No one believes that. Not that is believing that matters, but nonetheless.

They can either ride the wave or they can kill it prematurely.

Yep. We know who Josh Donaldson is too. Might hit for a decent average but will struggle to get the ball elevated. Decent role player but wont carry a team.

Listen before the season I was ready to give up on Jake and Im not saying Marisnick is Donaldson but his swing looks a lot better this year. Ride the wave until he proves that he hasnt changed. If hes still the same old jake then by all means put him back in his usual role. Its not like Aoki is setting the world on fire right now.

Or we could just see and not assume that his season would be ruined by starting for awhile. Pretty sure he'd still be a valuable defensive replacement and pinch runner regardless.

Exactly. Its not like we are benching Mike Trout or Charlie Blackmon for Jake. Its Nori Aoki or Jake.

You did the right thing Hinch. Reward Marisnick for exceptional play.
You did the right thing.

ETA Dissapointed Marwin is sitting with Beltran DHing. You failed Hunch.

Are there any articles about the specific changes he made?
