The Houston Astros are in First Place in the AL WEST. Their lead is 5.5 games over the Angels. The Astros have won 5 games in a row. Tonight they make it 6.

The Big Story is the Major League debut for 21 year old phenom Lance McCullers jr. He brings a Fastball in the mid 90s (4 seam and sinker) , curve and change up.

McCullers takes on the A's who are in last place in the AL West about 40 or so games out of first place. Drew Pomeranz (2-3, 4.42 ERA) drew the short straw and will face the Juggernaut Astros offense which leads all of baseball in Home runs, stolen Bases, crushed dreams, and general awesomeness.

Pain Train is rolling hard and fierce and the A's are sitting on the tracks.

Here's what I posted in the other thread just now and I'll put it in here

I wonder what their plan will be for 1B. IMO they need to bring up Singleton soon to see if he's going to be the answer there. Because if he isn't and Carter is still sucking they need to get Lowrie ready to play there upon his return or make a low cost move for a veteran 1B. Getting the kind of production they're getting from that spot is rough to watch

Here is the major Problem. You would have Gattis, Carter and Singleton all on the same squad. Gattis is purely a DH and is a liability in LF. Carter and Singleton can only place 1B or DH. You also have Tucker who you need to give at bats to and to me is superior to all of those guys at this point.

Someone has to go. you can't send Gattis or Carter to the minors because they don't have options.

I wouldn't mind seeing them trade Gattis but I'm not sure what the hell they would get for him.

I just get the sense from everything I've seen/read they aren't too concerned with Carter and I don't think they are just putting on a front. They honestly aren't worried about his production to this point.

Excited to see what McCullers can do and see him stretch the win streak.

True. It's a tough situation because they need to get more out of that spot and I think you need to see what Singleton can do before exploring outside options, but it hamstrings the roster as you said. If don't really know what the solution is because there isn't an easy one

Starting with Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the A's at home the astros will play day games in 6 of their next 8 games.

Comments on this tweet are pretty funny.

yeah I mean who's roster spot would Singelton take at this point? you can't send Villar down because you need at least two guys who can play SS, one starter and one back up. Marwin ain't going anywhere as he is the back up at all 4 IF positions.

Gattis
Carter
Altuve
Gonzales
Villar
Valbuena

Rasmus
Springer
Marisnick
Tucker

Conger
Castro

you have to take a pitcher off the roster to bring up Singleton and even then you have to split at bats between him, Carter, Gattis. I don't know . I"m sure the brain trust is thinking about some tough decisions and I'm sure they would be more than willing to include any of those three guys in a trade for a legit starting pitcher.

Yeah, I'll miss it too. First game in a couple of weeks to miss. Will be checking this thread for input on LMJ's performance.

The answer may be that one of Carter/Gattis/Singleton is part of a trade soon for another SP.

This is my not so bold prediction as well. We have a log jam of high K guys with power. At least one has got to go.

that is what I was trying to say. I wonder if the A's would take Gattis/Villar/Velasquez for Kazmir?

I don't want to trade within the division for a rental. I really hope we don't do that, but I would be good with signing Kazmir in the offseason.

yea I don't think they will got the rental route, a deal would have to be struck to lock him up for 2-3 years for that to work.
