Well, of course Wallace cleared waivers. He'll be at Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.

He'll never make the ML team.

He'll hit .320 @ AAA. He should be a career minor league player. He obviously had enough chances at the ML level. Now, at least Houston has options other than Wallace.

Yeah -- I remember that. And I distinctly remember you telling everyone of them that they were wrong when it was happening.

I was pretty sure you were Bill James when that was happening. Now I am convinced.

I'm not saying I'm a huge Brett Wallace fan, but....

He wasn't terrible after he came back from his demotion. His stats projected over a full season:

.239 32 doubles 30 homeruns 82RBI.

That's why I was surprised he got DFA'd. He wasn't great but he was probably producing as good as anyone on the roster by the end of the season

Not a solid reason, in my opinion. No one was producing, hence, the 15 game losing streak.

As for Wallace -- his problem has been his inability to cut his strike out rate. Combine that with his "streaky" nature, when he is "good" he still strikes out a lot and leaves too many ducks on the pond. When he is "bad" he is downright awful.

I'm on the fence about Wallace. Those projected full season stats look a bit better than what I have pegged in my head if he were to be an every day starter.

My issue with him lingering around is that he'll take away at bats from guys like Guzman or, considering either has a great spring, Amador & Singleton. I just would like to see someone else at this point.

true but on a team as bad as this, its often the case.

As for 2014, keep an eye on Chris Carter. I know his overall numbers weren't great but check out his home road splits. He was great on the road and downright terrible at MMP. I'm not sure what the problem was but if he could balance out, it could be a 35-40 homer season for him.

I keep seeing this in different articles. I hope it works out like everyone seems to be predicting.

I hope the Astros can return to the type of lineups when they had guys like Bell, Alou, Biggio, and Bagwell -- all top atheletes with great AVG, OBP, WAR, and low strikeout rates.

Those '98, '99, '00 lineups were just incredible to watch.

I meant to post a thread a few weeks ago but I didn't get to. The TV situation hasn't gotten any better and doesn't look like it will any time soon. The judge overseeing the case denied the Astros request to shop new networks. Also, word leaked that several months ago, Comcast offered to buyout the Astros stake in the deal for $500 million but the Rockets vetoed it.

Well FWIW I use a website that streams all of the games. I just plug up my laptop to my TV using an hdmi cord. The quality is a little grainy, but hey, it's 'stros baseball on TV.

Could anyone see Wallace being a Chris Davis like player eventually

The Rangers wrote off Chris Davis because he was essentially an AAAA player - not good enough for the Bigs but too good for Triple A

Maybe not as big of production as Chris Davis but at least give him another shot

Wallace is the most frustrating player. He clearly has talent because you see it in the minors, but he sucks something awful in the bigs.

Maybe if he went somewhere else that he could just be a more of a role player he would have more success? Who knows...

frick NO

Davis demonstrated Power throughout his minor league career, and flashes in the Bigs. Wallace doesn't have anywhere close to the power numbers that Davis put up; he's a 25 HR in a career year guy.

Davis hit for high averages - like .315 and up - multiple times in the minors with 35-40 home runs.

I read this elsewhere....

What do you guys think about Grossman and Dominguez? I think those two are going to be the most improved Astros.

Look at Grossman's stats when he came back from his demotion.

Also, Dominguez is young. I understand he doesn't take walks either, but his power numbers could improve as well. Must be those sweet early-2000 shades he wears.

I was told to compare Matt Dominguez's numbers with Cesepedes numbers. It was eerily similar last year.
