DAT 4/25: HOU (Keuchel) @ CLE (Tomlin) 5:10 CT

Big series this week, the squad hasn't gotten a chance to prove themselves against many top teams yet. Win tonight would be huge to guarantee a .500+ road trip.

Things to know:
• Of the 107 pitchers with 50 batted balls against them, Keuchel's 64.9-percent ground-ball rate is second highest. Keuchel also has allowed an average exit velocity of just 83 mph on those ground balls, limiting opponents to a .188 batting average on them.
• Astros designated hitter Carlos Beltran celebrates his 40th birthday on Monday. Beltran will spend the day with family at his home in Puerto Rico before rejoining the team in Cleveland on Tuesday.
• Astros first baseman Yulieski Gurriel is batting .444 since April 11, the best in the Majors during that span, with a home run and four RBIs.
• The Indians are 2-4 at home, but it hasn't been because of the offense. Jose Ramirez (.524), Francisco Lindor (.435) and Lonnie Chisenhall (.417) have led an offense that averages 4.5 runs per game at home.

Thx guys.
I've been looking at old DAT from Sunday's game continuously since it was the only thing that would come up in my history with TD down.
Is there another board y'all use to discuss Astros. 12+ yrs ago I would post on the MLB Astros board, but don't know of any others

Will there be a Dragon appearance?

I read Crawfishboxes. They've got a lot of good articles daily and do game threads as well. Be forewarned that a lot of the commenters there fancy themselves as smarter than Bill James when it comes to Sabermetrics and advanced statistics and they get pretty smarmy about it. For instance Chris Carter was one of the best hitters in baseball because his WRC+ was slightly above average. He's just under appreciated by the plebs.

If you pointed out that his wRC+ was still very below average for starting 1B in MLB you were basically Satan. Valued poster Daryle Ward Uppercut did not last long on Crawfish Boxes

Unfortunately he's also got an absurd .500 BAbip during that stretch. Considering how many ground balls he hits, he's due to come crashing back to Earth soon.

He's been hitting more line drives recently though, and hitting them hard. I think his numbers will settle to a little bit above average production.

I just read a tweet from Mctag that sounds like both jake and springer won't be available. It was very direct though

If so, this is silly. None of us want to risk a single game just to wait out Jake. Call up Teo and put him on the 7-day concussion DL.

I was looking for the data on that. Turns out fangraphs has a breakdown of batted ball numbers and you can select certain periods of time.
From April 3 to 10th for Yuli
5.3% line drives
52.6% groundballs
42.1% flyballs
40% pulled, 30% center, 30% opposite
20% soft contact, 40% medium, 20% hard
From April 11 to present
27.6% line drives
55.2% groundballs
17.2% flyballs
41.4% pull, 47.3% center, 10.3% opposite
13.8% soft, 44 8% medium, 41.4% hard
So you're right, his line drives have gone way up during this hot stretch. He's hitting the ball harder back up the middle more often.

I don't think we are going to play with 2 outfielders unavailable tonight. Jake will go on the DL and Teo will come up. He wasn't in the lineup yesterday for Fresno so I bet he flew to Cleveland and is on standby just in case.

We can get by tonight with Marwin, Aoki and Reddick, plus Beltran.
No need to make a move if Jake or George will be ready to go tomorrow.

It's not worth it to keep Jake on the roster when you can get him back in a week. We cannot play a game with one bench bat, especially the most winnable game of the series.

Anywhere in the city and then have an Uber drop you right outside the park.

Nah there's no point in that. Jake isn't so important that he's worth waiting it out and playing with a short bench hoping to avoid a DL trip. George yes. Jake no. Especially with the concussion DL available.
DL him, call up Two for a few games.
