Dan Lebetard: CFP rankings contrived nonsense.

Do you believe the first or second college football playoff rankings are strictly made for the games that proceed them next week? For example rank Alabama and LSU in the top 4 this week and get a top 4 match up elimination game. Rank TCU and Baylor lower when you know they are unlikely to lose until they play each other at the end of the season, let them rise, giving you another top 4 elimination game. Those are just a couple of examples. If you do believe this is true, where does the bar stop? Who knows about it? Just the committee? The NCAA? ESPN leadership? I think it's a solid point they made and I could see how the first few weeks of rankings are strictly made for tv and the matchups that follow

isn't that the admitted foundation of his show in which he makes a living off of?

Partially. I think some of the rankings are done because the know two of the teams will play, so they arent afraid to overrate one of the two teams because they know the ranking will be resolved the next week.
I dont think the rankings needed to put Bama at 4 instead of 5 or 6 for this game to get any more hype
But I do think that, for example, if LSU and Bama had already played, and LSU had won, they would be more cautious about where they ranked Bama.

Ok glad we got the bashing of the ESPN employee out of the way that we all hate. Do you have anything to add to the topic?

Putting Bama at 4 instead of 6 for this game is a big deal IMO. Me and you know it isn't, but a more casual person looks at it and thinks these are two playoff teams going at it. Idk if I worded that correctly but you get my point

Yea, I get what you are saying, but depending on the level of casual fan, they may not care that the game in early November has 2 top 4 teams in it vs top 5

Probably somewhat true.

No, they just see that they haven't played anyone.
Also, Ryen Russillo made a good point the other day. These rankings show you how much they love Notre Dame. They have the team they lost to in the #1 spot and ND just outside the top 4. I'm not saying this is some sort of conspiracy, but this just shows you these rankings can tell you a lot about how the playoff committee feels.

Someone will always find a way to spin a perceived inequity in the media into a "controversy". My opinion is the same as it was for the BCS. All the conference presidents agreed to the rules, so what's the deal?

Yep. Feel the same way.
But honestly the rankings mean jack shite the next two or three weeks. The last two or three are far more important.

I am by no means a Notre Dame fan, but this is just stupid. Clemson and ND both deserve to be where they are.

I can see where he's coming from here. I guess it gives some extra added hype to LSU @ Alabama this weekend?
maybe not though.
I don't pay much attention to the rankings or the discussions.
it is like watching a dog chase it's tail.

I think we all know they really want to make it
1a. bama
1b. Notre Dame
2-150. everyone else.

Not at all what I meant by that. I even said I'm not saying this is a conspiracy. Just shows you how they feel about certain teams. Because a lot of people like to say these rankings mean nothing this early in the season.

Then why even have them at this point? There are two ways to look at the rankings from Tuesday:
A) They know teams will play each other down the road so they're creating suspense/hype over the next few weeks and then they'll get serious about the rankings in the last poll.
B) They legitimately feel as though these rankings are accurate based on the criteria they are mandated to use when judging the teams.
If it is Option A, then come out and say it and don't be disingenuous about what you're trying to do. I truly hope it is Option A, although I think that is a bullshite way of treating it. If it is Option B, then everyone not named Alabama/ND/Ohio State should be worried, because the ratings this week are a travesty when you breakdown the criteria they stated they will use to rank the teams.
Many people say not to worry because it will all work itself out on its own, but I think most people are simply praying for that to happen, because I cannot understand how an unbiased observer can have any faith in the crap they delivered Tuesday. If it doesn't "work itself out", and the season ends in chaos, I've got zero faith in the committee to put the right teams in the playoff.

I thought this was pretty obvious.
