re: CY Young Award CandidatesPosted by The Seaward on 8/18/15 at 9:12 pm to GEAUXLSUFAN401
I really don't know who I would pick. No clear cut leader IMO. I think any of those front-runners would be a good pick.
I think Kershaw and Sale are the best pitchers in their leagues, but I can't say Greinke, Scherzer, deGrom, Keuchel, Gray aren't deserving.

If Clayton wins his 4th Cy young, does that make him a HOFer even if he never throws another pitch?

Well, is Mark Prior a hall of famer? They are basically the same pitcher after all.

Chris Sale and Jacob deGrom are no brainers

Gray and Kershaw

I think deGrom is awesome, but I don't see how I could get him above either Dodgers pitcher, much less as a no-brainer. I'd love to hear your case for why he is a no-brainer.

I think too many people are going to freak out over Claytons low win total. I think Zack is going to win it

As long as Kershaw doesn't face the Cardinals again in the regular season he should be fanatastic.

I don't like how much truth is in that

I don't see how greinke is not the clear cut leader

He without a doubt has the most traditional case for it. 13-2 with a 1.xx ERA. By fielding independent measures, Kershaw reigns supreme though. I don't think there is a wrong choice between the two.

Struggled the most against the Rockies this season.... remove those 4 games and his numbers look a hell of a lot better
For Kershaw, actually came across this yesterday on wiki: LINK
He's the all-time leader in quality start pct (min. 100 starts). I say he's a first ballot HOFer if he wins the Cy Young, and if he stays healthy for a reasonable amount of time in the remainder of his career, he may have an argument for the greatest of all time.

No love for Greninke?

I do not think he is that far off. I guess I would vote for Kershaw, but I do own deGrom on a fantasy team, so that might be the difference.

Oh, I don't think he is far off. I think he is right under Kershaw and Greinke, but I don't see how you can say he is a no-brainer. I just don't see what stats you could use to back that up.

Hardly. I'm a Stros fan, but it wouldn't bother me very much at all if Gray ends up finishing at his current clip and wins it. I think it goes 1. Gray 2. Kid K 3. Sale
And there's no way deGrom is a nobrainer over the LAD pitchers.
