Saw this stat earlier on a cubs board. It goes against everything we learn about how important starting pitching is as the cubs are in middle of yet another losing streak which is common the last two years.. Tonite in rangers game a ranger fan should never break a sweat unless cubs starter goes for complete game.
we can't get a hit with runners in scoring position (by far worse in baseball...44 out of 243 at bats which is a scorching .181. Also last in runner on 2nd 0 outs and last I looked was a .140avg that he scored..arohnd 20points lower than thr avg.

The few times we do score bullpen will blow it.

So what's the cubs first fix? Would you rather outslug teams or get lucky to score a run then have a shutdown bullpen. Both are pipe dreams of course.

Both will be changing soon. Garza will be back shortly and that will boost the bp by bumping a sp. I personally would like to see Jackson move to closer. He has the stuff ala Dempster when he was struggling as a starter.

Sweeney was called up today and the lineup should see a boost once they are able to get borbun and sweeney more abs. Schierholtz and one of sori and dejesus will be traded. Soler is a year away from the majors and will be an instant boost.

Did not feel like making the thread, but today is the 15th anniversary of the greatest game ever pitched.

frick, I'm getting old. I was a freshman at LSU watching that game in my dorm with my Astro fan roommate.

As for Mikey's question, bolster the bullpen. I'd rather try to win games 2-1 than watch the bullpen blow any more leads.

It was on ESPN Classic today. He threw like 30 sliders that were all the nastiest pitch I have ever seen.

Yeah, I have bitching about this all year. It would be a way to win a lot more games, but it would be very small spending and worthwhile. A few 3 year, $10 million contracts will not affect the long term rebuild. Plus, having a couple quality relievers would make the current product so much more watchable.
