Aaron Rodgers is the ultimate late bloomer. Dude was 6-0 180 average speed with a noodle arm coming out of HS. Grew 2 inches and 25 lbs in a year. He really didn't have the arm and athleticism we see now until his 4th or 5th year in the league

He was initially projected as the top qb when he declared early for the draft and fell to Green Bay in the bottom third of the first round.

You can say he was a late bloomer out of high school, but not that late of a bloomer.

For the black players in the 60's - yes.

The Raiders were one of the few franchises that raided the HBCU's like drafting Eldridge Dickey (QB, Tennessee State University, 1964-1967); Willie Brown (DB, Grambling State University, 1959-1963); Raymond Chester (TE, Morgan State, 1968).
I'd say from the 1950's until mid to 70's. But I get your point.

Never forget him awkwardly explaining how he couldn't get into LSU and how he's sorta related to Jacob Hester during the 2006 Sugar Bowl.

Nothing particularly crazy about it ,but evidence that these Big schools don't create great players they recruit them. Grambling (4) , Morgan State (4) & Jackson State(3) all have more NFL HOFers than any SEC school outside of Alabama.

Had Leonard Fournette, Landon Collins, Beckham, Jr, Patrick Peterson , etc ... all chosen Grambling or Southeastern of Hammond they are still in the NFL.
Booger McFarland says he could have gone to Tuskegee and made the NFL , but chose the short & long term perks of big time college ( Obvious better facilities/ resources & long term connections to well heeled Alumni that pay off in the future).

Back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s alot of top black athletes all went to HBCUs. There are actually alot of HOFs who went to an HBCU.

Nothing crazy about it; talent is where it is, and they are paid to find it. Always has been the case, always will be.
