"Covering up the tight end"

Why is this a penalty on a running play? I thought the whole point of the penalty was that the TE became an ineligible receiver. If it's a running play, eligibility doesn't matter anymore.

I asked the same question in the game thread..... doesn't make sense... unless it's an NFL thing.

That's the only explanation I can come up with. Just an NFL rule that you can't ever cover up the TE.

I'm with you.... if you're running the ball, what the hell does it matter how many men are on the LOS?.... I can understand 5 men in the backfield.... I can understand the TE being ineligible on a pass play.... I can't understand too many men on the LOS for a running play.
