Is it telling regarding the seriousness of it that they didn’t even carry him as a potential pinch hitter for the latter part of the series? Or they just felt the wasted roster spot for the first few games wouldn’t be worth it?

I think you can but I would imagine MLB will be pretty pissed off if they use the phantom injury thing in a playoff series with one of their biggest stars. I doubt the Dodgers would have left him off the roster entirely if that's what they were planning to do

Could very easily be a legit back problem that keeps him out for the whole series. I just wouldn't be surprised if they did manipulate the DL. I'm sure it will piss people off if it happens, but idk what MLB can do to keep the dodgers from doing that. This could very well be a real week long issue, but it also might be a day to day thing that the Dodgers don't want to waste a roster spot on and are tinkering around the roster rules

Give whoever they're replacing an outside physical. It would open the floodgates for teams to frick with their pitching in the middle of a playoff series and be generally terrible for playoff baseball IMO

Can MLB do that? Arent these roster moves completely up to the discretion of the team? They may go there eventually, and the dodgers potentially putting Seager back on the roster might be what starts that move, but can they do that right now?

Sorry, but I wouldn't be saying "Congrats Cubs". It likely doesn't matter that Seager is not there, the Cubs are very good but have deep flaws.
