I think this will give us the best idea of how each RB stacks up. This is for fun.

Derrick Henry vs Power 5 Teams: 1581 yards, 6.2 YPC, 16 TDs

Leonard Fournette vs Power 5 Teams: 1358 yards, 6.2 YPC, 14 TDs

Ezekiel Elliott vs Power 5 Teams: 1339, 6.83 YPC, 15 TDs

Dalvin Cook vs Power 5 Teams: 1130 yards, 7.69 YPC, 11 TDs

Christian McCaffrey vs Power 5 Teams: 1582 yards, 5.92 YPC, 7 TDs

Derrick Henry has faced these defenses:

Wisconsin: 5th ranked Rush Defense

Minnesota: 71st ranked Rush Defense
Illinois: 64th ranked Rush Defense
Michigan State: 16th ranked Rush Defense

Average Rush Defense Faced: 57th (56.88)

Dalvin Cook has faced these defenses:

Boston College: 2nd ranked Rush Defense
Wake Forest: 57th ranked Rush Defense
Miami: 108th ranked Rush Defense
Louisville: 17th ranked Rush Defense
Georgia Tech: 61st ranked Rush Defense
Clemson: 24th ranked Rush Defense
NC State: 42nd ranked Rush Defense
Florida: 7th ranked Rush Defense
Average Rush Defense Faced: 40th (39.75)

Christian McCaffrey has faced these defenses:

Northwestern: 15th ranked Rush Defense
USC: 30th ranked Rush Defense
Oregon State: 116th ranked Rush Defense
Arizona: 20th ranked Rush Defense
UCLA: 87th ranked Rush Defense
Washington: 29th ranked Rush Defense
Washington State: 101st ranked Rush Defense
Colorado: 98th ranked Rush Defense
Oregon: 75th ranked Rush Defense

So in order of best rush defenses faced (Power 5):
Dalvin Cook > Derrick Henry > Leonard Fournette > Ezekiel Elliott > Christian McCaffrey

There, now we know what they've done against real competition and how good that competition was at stopping the run.

*I posted this on the SECr, figured you'd all like it.

Cook's YPC + his average Rush Defense faced has given me new perspective. Of course I want Henry to win the Heisman, and I don't think anyone should have a problem with it if he does, but Cook definitely deserves it too. What a fricking beast.

Might want to consider that Fournette had one less game, in which he probably would have had about 200 yards and 2-3 TDs.

ETA: Nevermind. I'm an idiot.

McCaffrey? I'll check out his rushing too I guess, since that's the main thing I'm looking at between these guys. As for leaving him out, honestly I still don't consider him as good as the others Let's see what the stats say. Apparently cfbstats doesn't count Notre Dame as a Power 5 Team, just noticed that, so I'll add them to his stats:

Christian McCaffrey vs Power 5 Teams: 1582 yards, 5.92 YPC, 7 TDs

Christian McCaffrey has faced these defenses:

Northwestern: 15th ranked Rush Defense
USC: 30th ranked Rush Defense
Oregon State: 116th ranked Rush Defense
Arizona: 20th ranked Rush Defense
UCLA: 87th ranked Rush Defense
Washington: 29th ranked Rush Defense
Washington State: 101st ranked Rush Defense
Colorado: 98th ranked Rush Defense
Oregon: 75th ranked Rush Defense
California: 103rd ranked Rush Defense
Notre Dame: 65th ranked Rush Defense
Average Rush Defense Faced: 67th (67.18)

This is vs power 5 teams. Mcneese would not qualify

We're looking only at what they did against Power 5 teams, not Group of 5 or FCS teams, so his game against McNeese would've meant nothing to this.

They may have been when the game was played, but they aren't now.

Figuring out where each rush defense was ranked when the player played against it would be too hard and would take too long.

Do the same analysis again and use the defensive rankings of yards/rush. Using rush yards/game is a little too simplistic

Good idea. If someone else wants to do it before me go right ahead, if not I may do it eventually.

Dalvin Cook is probably the best RB in the country.

These stats do not comment on the O-Lines they are running behind. I think if DH and LF were swapped during the LSU/Bama game their stats would have been interchangeable as well. LF would have rumbled behind Bama's O Line and DH would have been smothered.

Just counting rushing yards short changes McCaffrey big time.

McCaffrey has more all purpose yards this year than any major conference player since Barry Sanders in 88.
