“Everybody has the liberty of (kneeling), and they should (have that freedom),” Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry told USA TODAY Sports on Sunday in Oakland Calif., where he launched a newly refurbished gym and courts for kids and reiterated that he has no plans to kneel. “I think a lot has been said about how the NBA guys – and definitely the case in the NFL, too – are actually doing stuff on the back end and using their platforms and their connections and their networks and money to actually (make a difference).

quote:

“It feels good to have that kind of impact, to help actually create change in the ways that you can. … The attention needs to be on that, and how that’s impacting the community as opposed to 130 guys kneeling in the NFL. That’s great, but this is the stuff that matters and this is the stuff that can actually move the needle when it comes to impacting the next generation.”

quote:

Then came the Anthony-driven community conversation in Los Angeles later that month, when Team USA’s men and women interacted with 50 local kids and 20 LAPD officers who took part in the “Building Bridges through Basketball.” The scene was repeated in New Orleans, Chicago and Detroit, with more cities to come. Locals take part in two-and-a-half hour sessions for 10 weeks. The curriculum includes on-court activities and a civic playbook that focuses on real-life lessons.

quote:

“I think the message is getting lost in the kneeling, for a lot of us, with all the narratives that are being brought out of it,” Memphis point guard Mike Conley told USA TODAY Sports. “People (in the public) can kind of say what they want about everybody’s kneeling, but I think I’m more about the action, more about voicing it.

So some people get mad when the Right isn’t accepting of people not standing for the National Anthem, and this guy isn’t accepting of people standing for the Anthem?

Get outta here with that crap.

The players said they were glad that the NBA had let them voice their opinions very openly, and didn’t want to take away from that by kneeling. They’re still very passionate about racial equality, and working very hard to make an effort to improve that.

You said they were planning of "other ways of protest". They're explicitly saying that they are not going to protest.

I meant they're going out in their communities and trying to fix what they think is bad. Just like the NFL guys do. Poor choice of wording there, I didn't mean they'd kneel down in their driveway.

Besides giving money to minorities, how do NBA players tangibly improve "racial inequality"?

The only difference is they won't kneel because they'd get fined. If they wouldn't get fined, some of then would've probably knelt too.

Having cops and kids together might help help.

The thing is nba players are not really, for the most part, in a position to have shite to protest about

Curry, who is mixed and whose father played in the nba for 17;years, who has lived in gated community his entire life be why are people asking him to kneel?

Melo goes to rickers island and does a workshop with immates. I respect that more than kneeling

The fact that someone would feel curry needs to apologize for being born into a great family is sad.

I don't think he needs to apologize Don't put words in my mouth. But he isn't the guy who needs to be leading the charge on racial inequality because frankly he's never experienced any.

Even a guy like LeBron James who was born poor and never net his father, are treated very differently by everyone from a very early age. A first round pick knows he's a first round pick by the time he's a junior or senior in high school and everyone around them knows it too

Nba players are just not the ones who should be leading the charge

This is one of the dumbest argument I’ve ever heard. If that’s the case then why is anyone of wealth running for politics or give to charity? They’ve never experienced poverty

They all should of been doing this for decades. And instead of propping themselves up, propping up local teachers, firemen, actual leaders of men, etc.

Push the jock sniffing to the side, and show them education is how you succeed in life, not a football or basketball.

Didn't Curry say that they thought that kneeling wouldn't solve or change anything and they have taken a different approach to change? Could of sworn he said it last night or at least someone did during the broadcast

Right, he said it’s counterproductive

Similar to Eric Reid, who feels guilty for not being raised in the hood by a single mother, but is now a SJW.
