College teams that play in off campus stadiums

I dont understand why teams like Pitt, San Diego St, and South Florida play in pro stadiums and not an on campus stadium
that takes so much away from the college feel that an on campus field gives.
i just dont see the point. i know it saves them money most likely, but surely Pitt has some big money donors

There are a number of programs that have off campus stadiums but are used primarily for that program...Williams-Brice is a good example.
If you notice, these teams you reference play in highly-populated areas which command significant price tags for real estate and construction costs.

I take it you have never been on the Pitt campus? Place is land locked and it is all hills. No way they could fit a decent size stadium on campus. They did have an on campus stadium back in the 1970's.

Same way with SDSU is a campus crammed in between freeways.
Also if you didn't know the chargers have been looking for a place to build a new stadium for about the last 10 years.

Looks like they tore it down to build other crap on the site. Probably a mistake, always hated seeing how empty the Steelers stadium looks when the Panthers play there. Last game was in 99 btw.

Sometimes it's just there from before.

I believe the Pete (basketball arena) is on that site now

I'm pretty sure PITT literally has no available space to put in a football stadium.

Dang, that's actually a cool looking stadium

Does USC even count since the Coliseum is right next door?

What was that?
If you've been to Pitt's campus there is nowhere to put a stadium. Like not even the way Tulane squeezed one in. It's a shame they tore down the old one it looks sweet

The only voodoo I recall in Waco was from Heart O' America. There was some serious voodoo in that rodeo arena doubling as a basketball gym.
UCLA is smart to play in the Rose Bowl UNLV will never play on campus. Why build one if there is a stadium already there you cant use?

Pitt has some great teams in the late 70's and early 80's. Their battles with Oenn State at the time were always a high type matchup.

Not everywhere is abundant with land. And California costs a whole lot of money. To build a stadium like Tulane's, it could cost as much as A & M spent on their rebuild.
You will never find an SDSU fan happy to play in that rundown stadium our team plays in now.

You don't understand why college kids would want to play at Heinz field where the steelers play? Really? Not to mention cheaper and easier to get to in metro areas than building it out in the boonies
