Got to think about long term health right?

Sources: Heat star Chris Bosh’s condition more serious than calf strain

Damn shame.

You can stop pretending to still be a Heat fan. No one is buying it.

He has lived this long, DVT/PEs won't stop him. All kidding aside.

Hope he takes his health into consideration if it's a second, he needs to just hang it up if so it's just not worth it.

Would have to agree. He's had a great career. Nothing left for him to prove.

The best thing to prevent DVT is to be active. Not sure why playing basketball can be attributed to this

The flights are a problem. The activity runs the risk of dislodge ng the clot and causing very serious problems like stroke or heart attack.

Dislodging one will rarely cause a stroke unless you have a decent sized hole in the heart. The danger is it going through the right heart and into the lungs which increases pulmonary vascular pressure and can significantly decrease blood perfusion and oxygen exchange in the pulmonary vascular bed, or the lungs and kill you. Ticking time bomb if you have one and are active.

Penguins hockey player missed almost all of last year from a blood clot in his leg, was on thinners, returned this season, lasted about a month or two and had one pop back up, retired.

Their situations are very very similar.

I am currently recovering from a saddle PE. I threw a clot in my quad. Some of it ended up in my left lung. Wildest week of my life. I hadn't spent the night in a hospital until 3 weeks ago. I passed out in the docs office, and I ended up spending the night in ICU. They installed a greenfield filter and I'll be on warfarin the rest of my life. I was working out and could not catch my breath. I thought I was having back spasms or something. I have never experienced back spasms before, so I wasn't sure what they felt like. My leg ballooned up the next day. So I went to the doc.

I'm about the same age as Bosh. The doc wants to check me in a month, but said I should be able to train for the Pikes Peak Ascent without any issues. I have been told that I have to take frequent walking breaks on long trips. The travel is probably the concern with Bosh. Folding up a dude as tall as he is on a plane is an issue itself. Add the fact that he is prone to clots and it might mean the end of his NBA career.

Prayers sent. Bosh is the type of dude who deserves a happy post-NBA career. He would likely do a lot of good for other people.

I think the travel could be a factor in this as well. I mean it happened to Serena Williams as well and she's also in top shape as is Bosh. I feel bad for the guy bc there really isn't much you can do about it. They do advise to walk around on plane rides every couple of hours. I wonder if he has some clotting factor problem going on bc he was likely on blood thinners from the last one.
