I'm strongly considering a playoff beard.

This is the year the Caps make it past the second round. Law of averages, right? I'm predicting an Anaheim-Caps final. And I haven't expected the Caps to make it to the Cup since the 09-10 season. Thought that Arnott team a year later would at least make the ECF.

Stanley Cup odds...
Pittsburgh Penguins 7/2
Chicago Blackhawks 4/1
Boston Bruins 8/1
Montreal Canadiens 10/1
Anaheim Ducks 10/1
San Jose Sharks 12/1
Washington Capitals 14/1
Vancouver Canucks 14/1
St. Louis Blues 15/1
Los Angeles Kings 15/1
Minnesota Wild 18/1
New York Rangers 20/1
Toronto Maple Leafs 25/1
New York Islanders 30/1
Detroit Red Wings 30/1
Ottawa Senators 30/1
Kings, Blues, and Caps all seem like good value bets. Red Wings are probably your best long odd bet, though Ottawa's tempting now that they have Karlsson back. Of the favorites, really like 10/1 for Anaheim. Fairly long odds for a team I'd consider the #3 overall seed, and who swept the Hawks this season.
Or you could play it safe with the two favorites.

I mean, I'd agree with you if the Caps were playing a team that they'd beaten in regulation during the regular season :)
Bring it on bitches, can't wait to see the No-vechkin show. Or is that the Ovechkin No-show.
The Caps have had the easiest schedule with a mediocre team. Can't wait for this series to be over. Not saying the Rangers win in 4, but I just don't see it happening for you guys this year.

Feel empty Devils not there but two other locals in the chase. Islanders damn.

Would all of the players on the Rangers who have 30 career postseason goals like Ovechkin, please step forward?
No one. what about you, Brad Richards? What? Only 27. And you've played in 83 career playoff games compared to Ovie's 51. And you have a career -8 rating compared to Ovie's +11 in the playoffs? Hmmm.. well, you're more of a playmaker, so surely you score more once we add assists. Oh, you have a career 0/93 points per game in the playoffs, while Ovie has a 1.16? Strange.
Well, at least you have that big edge in goaltending. King Henry has a career .920 Sv % and a .926 this year and a .917 career playoff mark. Holtby only has a career .923 mark, .920 this year, and a career .935 mark in the playoffs.
Thank goodness y'all are healthy... Oh. Sorry about that.

Thank you...I do not see how anyone can say OV is anything but very good to great in the playoffs...

Caps better take out the Rangers, please.
Posted on 4/29/13 at 1:07 pm to Baloo
Yeah 17 points in 19 career playoff games against the Rangers is chump change. 13 in 12 before last year's Hunter Hockey series.

How great would it be if Columbus won the lottery draft tonight after being screwed last year?

Baloo, I love you like a brother
Ovechkin's productivity in the playoffs is 35% less against the Rangers than any other team. Dude is a good sniper, just doesn't show up against the Rangers. He never does, I don't know if it's the Rangers style of play or if Hank just has his #.
Ovechkin has played in 51 career playoff games and has 30 goals. He's been great against other teams. He's averaged 5 shots a game and 0.7 goals per game against teams NOT named the Rangers. That's awesome!
Against the Rangers he's still averaged 5 shots a game, so he's getting the opportunities, however the opportunities just aren't as good. He's only averaging 0.42 goals per game. That's not very Ovechkin like!
Against other teams he averages 14% shooting percentage. Unreal! Against the Rangers? 9%. Still pretty good, but not very Ovie like.
Sure he's as good as anyone the Rangers have, but he barely gets into the defensive zone. and is a cherry picker. He'll have another meltdown, borrow Brad Richards invisibility suit and not be seen again.
Can't wait for Thursday for my boys to back me up. Otherwise bookmark my post so you can shove it in my face later.

Too bad those stats have never translated to Ovechkin helping to take his team past the 2nd round of the playoffs. Richards contributed to three teams making it at least to the CF. Not to mention, he's won the Cup and Conn Smythe. But that's irrelevant since stats mean everything, right?

Holtby has played in, what, 14 career postseason games? Obviously Holtby is the better goaltender since he has better stats in a much smaller sample size.

Preds aren't in it, so I'm not sure who to root for. Caps possibly? Or Rangers?
Maybe the Wild? Who knows. Excited to watch post-season hockey nevertheless.

Maybe, just maybe, there are 19 other players dressed out each night that help determine whether a team wins. And the Caps' secondary scoring has sucked in the playoffs. Alexander Semin has more career playoff PIM's than points. And its not close. He's also a net negative player.
The Caps haven't lost because of ovie, they've lost due to some dismal 3rd lines and no 2C. And a right winger who goes AWOL every spring.

Yeah, he saved himself the trouble and got a jump on golfing early.
Honestly, despite the fact the Caps and Rangers play seemingly every year, there's remarkably little bad blood. Last year's loss was heartbreaking, but it was more of a coin flip that didn't go our way instead of a "I hope you die" kind of series. More than anything, it's simple fatigue of this matchup. I wanted someone else just to mix it up.
