Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler may be able to ride to his Saturday night bash in Las Vegas in a new set of wheels.

Chevrolet told CNBC that they will give the truck they usually give to the Super Bowl MVP to Butler. Quarterback Tom Brady, who won the MVP award and likely needs another set of wheels as much as he needs another pair of Uggs, expressed interest in giving the truck to Butler in recognition of the undrafted rookie’s interception at the goal-line with seconds to play in Super Bowl XLIX.

Because the car is considered a taxable prize by the Internal Revenue Service, Brady would have been on the hook for a tax bill of $13,500 for accepting the car and another $8,000 in gift tax for bestowing it upon Butler.

Thanks to Chevy, which won’t be issuing two vehicles, Brady will hold onto that cash although Butler will presumably still owe the taxman something. That closes the book on this story and moves us a little deeper into the long offseason wait to watch games rather than the whereabouts of a red truck.

Eta kind of sucks for butler actually

I would guess Chevy handles the taxes, otherwise Butler will just tell them to keep the truck.

They can't force him to accept it.

Meh. He's basically paying 13k for a brand new truck. That's not bad at all

Also he may have been an I drafted free agent but those guys still make 6 figures

exactly. Even if he had to cover it, it isn't like he's getting a bad deal.

Maybe but companies still pay the taxes a lot of times.

Surprisingly, even multi millionaires don't appreciate receiving a "gift" followed by a bill. And Chevy doesn't need the potential embarrassment of Butler saying "Uhhh...give it to Edelman or the Gronk, instead"

Chevy is giving the truck directly to Malcolm Butler, and Uncle Sam is giving the D directly to the A.

It's a nice truck for a normal person. Not sure why Chevy would think an mvp would want it (especially considering you MVPS are usually superstars).

Give them a sting ray.

Chevy needs to bring in their closer again to get rid of this truck that's full of technology and stuff.
