Wow. Just wow. I went there to see what they are saying about all of this. Thought maybe the majority of them really feel the same as the rest of the country, that the people who KNEW that children were being abused in the worst way, and let it CONTINUE FOR YEARS, deserve no sympathy. But no, the vast majority say that this one mistake of Paterno's does not warrant the treatment he has received. They are angry that he was fired over the phone. They are angry at the media for villanizing their heros. I do now believe that the entire state of Pennsylvania must be destroyed. And I consider myself a pacifist. LITTLE KIDS WERE GETTING RAPED AND PEOPLE KNEW! PATERNO KNEW!! MCCQUEARY KNEW! WHAT PART OF THIS DOES ANYONE NOT #&^%$&^&^$%$$^% UNDERSTAND?????

I sinecerly mean no offense to any Christians on the board - but my feeling is Joe has devoted a lifetime of giving to PSU - 100s of millions have flowed into that University because of him, he gave time and money to countless charitable organizations not to mention the thousands of lives he changed and inspired. And in his greatest moment trial and adversity Penn State abandons him so he can be crucified for the sins of others. The BOT of PSU is comprised of nothing but a bunch of Judases. And I've got news for them - this will not satiate the media jackals - they want more blood and your now fresh out of bodies to throw them - guess who they will focus on next. As some stated, a phone call after you never he spoke to the man to hear his side? Cowardly. As appoo said - and I'm sure this applies to many of us - our memories of Penn State and Joe are intertwined with memories of our fathers and grandfathers as we watched games with them. And I'm sure for many of us Joe serves as a surrogate father figure - an ideal and moral figure of who we want to become and aspire to be as a man. I know he may not have acted perfectly in the situation but is there no loyalty to a man who has given so much to the Penn State community? Would any of us stand by and watch our fathers drawn and quartered because one time "he did not do enough" to get others to do what they should have done? My buddies have a term for your closest most trusted friends "foxhole friends" - meaning if you were in combat who would you want in the foxhole with you - who could you trust in the worst of situations - I'd take Joe a 100 times over any coward on the BOT. Unless further information arises making him more complicit in these events this is flat out wrong.

Exactly. But what if it was his son or grandson or little brother that was being raped in that shower? Think he'd be putting the cute little "didn't do enough" (sarcasm) out there then?

Why are they so attached to a coach who won only 2 championships in 46 years? That mediocrity wouldn't fly in the SEC.

How about the information in the grand jury report? That there was a police investigation in 1998 (which led to Sandusky's "retirement") and THEN McQueary's report in 2002. So when he heard MQ's story it was basically a 2nd offense.

Did Joe Pa consult with the chair of the board or the interim president before announcing his intentions to remain through the season? It sounds like he handed down a decree in an effort to try to preempt the trustees. Apparently his presumption in making such an announcement did not sit well with the trustees, who decided to respond in kind with a phone call telling him, in essence, he was no longer calling the shots. It appears that he didn't bother to check with the administration (or at least the people who mattered), so they felt no obligation to give him the news face to face.
If he didn't consult with the appropriate administrators before his announcement, as seems likely, can't say that I blame the board too much for the abrupt way in which he was fired.

Valid point. While I don't often agree with Skip Bayless, he had a valid opinion on the firing of JoePa. Can you imagine the chaos if he tried to leave his house during those riots/protests and travel across campus to be fired in person? It would only have made things worse.
